Job Summary
The Cleaning Team Leader – Projects and Scheduling is a working supervisor role responsible for the day‑to‑day direction of a cleaning team while actively participating in cleaning, inspecting, and inventorying campus properties. The primary focus of this position is to support the Bowdoin Sustainable Cleaning Program by collaborating closely with the Cleaning Management Team to schedule and oversee routine cleaning tasks, daily assignments, and project‑based work.

This role coordinates and ensures the completion of all non‑routine cleaning tasks and project work, maintaining high standards across campus facilities. The size of the physical area and the number of employees assigned will vary depending on the building’s use and purpose, pedestrian traffic levels, and the intensity and frequency of cleaning required.
  • Perform general cleaning work assignments following established procedures and in compliance with the Bowdoin College Cleaning standards which involve utilizing machinery, college provided products, floor stripping and refinishing and training others to complete those tasks.
  • Supervise, direct, assist and assure the team’s completion of assigned cleaning tasks in accordance with established criteria daily by adjusting and inspecting work progress, carrying out special instructions or resolving cleaning problems. Attend all scheduled training sessions and meetings.
  • Provide daily oversight out in the field regularly and report all damages and initiate maintenance service requests.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies issued to complete assigned jobs, keep closet clean and free from clutter, and move furniture/office equipment as necessary.
  • Schedule daily coverage for buildings to adjust for vacations/sick days and communicate accordingly. Plan and schedule work for the completion of daily customer work orders.
  • Plan and coordinate the daily, weekly, and monthly projects, including floor, carpet and maintenance, window cleaning, other cleaning projects as well as reunion and summer cleaning needs. Schedule equipment moving and other logistics as needed so that cleaning projects can occur.
  • Provide coverage and support for Cleaning Team Leader-Quality and Training and/or Cleaning Supervisor as needed.


Compensation:
  • The hourly range for this position is expected to be: $21.00–$22.50/per hour. Compensation is based on skills and experience (this role is eligible for overtime and shift differentials).
  • New employees at Bowdoin will receive a $500 Sign-Bonus (paid after 90 days and upon meeting eligibility requirements)

Education/Skills Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required. Valid Maine drivers license required and the ability to meet the eligibility requirements as outlined in the Bowdoin College Motor Vehicle Policy.

  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate and relate well with a wide variety of individuals both on and off campus.
  • Ability to work successfully both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple work assignments.
  • Ability to lead a team effectively and guide group efforts to successful task completion.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and email applications (Outlook).
  • Effective time‑management skills.
  • Willingness and initiative to use technology and learn new software applications as needed.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
  • A minimum of four years of related experience is required, including at least one year of supervisory and training experience.
  • Some previous training experience within the cleaning industry is also required.
  • Experience using cleaning industry management software and maintenance management software is preferred.
  • This position is subject to a criminal history record check, motor vehicle record check and a pre-placement physical.

Standard Work Days and Hours
  • Primary schedule for this position is Monday – Friday, 5:30 am to 2:30 pm.
  • Special events and coverage issues may necessitate overtime hours, including weekends and holidays. Work assignments are reviewed and revised as necessary.
