As Clinical Application Specialist you co-create, together with our customers and a multi-disciplinary team, compelling new informatics applications as part of our IntelliSpace Cardiovascular solution. These applications range from intelligent diagnosis or treatment planning applications to applications that connect diagnosis, treatment, recovery and the home.

Your responsibilities

  • Function as a member of the Clinical Excellence Cardiovascular team in product development group. Clinical Application Specialist are a critical part of the product/solution team along with the Product Managers, R&D and other disciplines.
  • Their goal is to ensure products/solutions meet and exceed desired clinical outcomes and human factors/user experience specifications.
  • Work closely with Product Manager to specify the product application/clinical requirements developed from customer insights and experience gained during validation studies, customer/marketing interactions.
  • They are involved in all phases of product/solution development and product lifecycle management. Clinical Application Specialist spend approximately 10% of their time in the market with clinicians, supporting clinical validations, and high priority customer concerns.
  • They spend the rest of their time representing the voice of the clinician in their business and driving clinically oriented innovations. Work together with R&D to provide clinical requirement and guidance during product development, user interface design, general feature operation and including image optimization, to ensure that product performance meets intended clinical use. NPI verification and validation at product development site to verify project software/IQ/functionality/ workflow / clinical process.
  • Locate multiple sites willing to participate in External clinical studies (ECS). Provide ongoing and actionable feedback to the SCRUM team to continuously improve the design of the products/solutions.
  • Train field marketing managers and clinical application specialists on the clinical value proposition of new products/solutions by demonstrating product during launch events and support clinical application specialists with initial deployments at customers.
  • Represent voice of clinician by spending time in the market, gaining a deep understanding of end users’ clinical workflow and operational requirements. Collect relevant information e.g.
  • Principal investigator details and own and complete the documentation (Non-disclosure agreements, develop protocol, Clinical study agreements etc...) required for the clinical study. Train site on new system features.

The Cardiovascular Informatics business, part of the Enterprise Informatics business group in Philips, is a global leader in a/o enterprise PACS, advanced visualization and cardiology informatics solutions. We are serving over 5000+ cardiology informatics customers worldwide. Cardiovascular Informatics consists of over 150 employees dispersed globally, and is managed and headquartered in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. We have three main locations that are focused on developing software following the Agile methodology located in Eindhoven (The Netherlands), Bangalore (India) and in Blumenau (Brazil). You will be working in close collaboration with your clinical and product management colleagues in Eindhoven (The Netherlands), Bangalore (India) and Blumenau (Brazil). The team is globally responsible for the Philips Cardiovascular Informatics portfolio and is working on a very frequent basis with our customers (e.g. interventional cardiologists, sonographers, nurses, CIO’s, IT administrators etc.) as well as other groups in Philips like the Clinical Platforms, Research, Image Guide Therapy (IGT) and Ultrasound (US).

Your role:


  • Should be able to act as Clinical Application Specialist/Clinical Lead of a development group or Scrum team of a product line.

  • Define clinical requirements and provide clinical support to R&D in the form of clinical requirements, Requirements clarification, Prioritization of features/defects, Product validation, Expert clinical testing, Defects classification, Grooming Scrum teams, Complaint analysis, Risk analysis etc.

  • Should be able to clarify all clinical requirements obtained from end customers, product management and marketing teams and translate them into a mode that can be communicated to engineering teams (development and verification).

  • Should be able to understand the concepts of product validation along with the regulatory aspects associated with it and be able to work in the validation team for product validation.

  • Should be able to classify /provide clinical inputs to classify defects judiciously (keeping in the mind patient safety, product quality, release milestones etc.).

  • Should be able to train field clinical application specialists, customers etc. on new clinical features and product.

  • Should be updated with the latest happening in the clinical field in the domain of cardiology imaging.

  • Build and maintain good relationship with our validation/ collaboration sites.

  • Improve clinical competence of R&D - Understand the clinical needs (knowledge gaps) and plug the gaps by dissemination of clinical knowledge.

You're the right fit if:


  • Masters or Bachelors in Echocardiography / Cardiac Care Technology / Bio-medical engineering or Medical Degree (or comparable), with specialization in cardiology.

  • 7+ years’ of hands on experience in Echocardiography with good understanding of the clinical domain in Cardiovascular imaging . (Certified Cardiac Sonograpgers are prefered)

  • Good understanding and workflow knowledge of clinical specialties in cardiology, in diagnosis (e.g. Echocardiography, X-Ray angiography, ECG, Nuclear imaging, CT, MRI), treatment (e.g. Pacing/ICD), rehab and home monitoring programs.

  • Knowledge of at least one of the following Philips products is beneficial: IntelliSpace Cardiovascular, Xcelera, CVIS, Philips Ultrasound.

  • Knowledge of solutions like PACS, VNA, Post-processing etc is preferred.

  • Preferred to have knowledge and familiarity of DICOM/HL7/HIPAA standards.

  • Ability to work in an international, collaborative environment, both within Philips as well as with world-renowned cardiologists who expect high standards, high competence and understanding.

  • Knowledge of the software development life cycle with understanding of the requirements, verification and validation phases preferably SAFE Agile.

  • Excellent customer centric skills and fluent in English.

  • Willingness to travel globally on short notices.
