At Retina Northwest, research is part of patient care. Our team supports studies involving retinal and vitreous disease, helping bring research opportunities and emerging treatments into a real clinic setting. In this role, you will work directly with patients during study visits, partners with physicians and clinic staff, and help keep studies moving in the middle of busy, active practice.

Retina Northwest has cared for patients across Oregon and Washington for more than 40 years. We are a physician-led practice built on teamwork, compassion, and doing what is right for patients. We are looking for a Clinical Research Coordinator to join our small, collaborative research team. This is not an entry-level role. We need someone who can come in with experience, work independently, and take real ownership of the day-to-day work. For the right person, this is a chance to do meaningful work and be part of research that helps move retina care forward.

What You’ll Do

This is a hands-on clinical research role that blends patient interaction, study coordination, and detailed follow-through. You will help manage day-to-day trial activity while working closely with patients, physicians, sponsors, monitors, and clinic staff.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating study visits, patient scheduling, and daily trial activity
  • Screening potential participants and supporting enrollment
  • Reviewing study protocols and making sure visit requirements are followed accurately
  • Obtaining medical histories and performing protocol-driven assessments, including refractions, EKGs, visual acuities, tonometry, and other required testing
  • Educating patients on study procedures, expectations, and informed consent
  • Maintaining informed consent documentation and version control
  • Serving as a liaison between physicians, sponsors, monitors, and clinic staff
  • Supporting clinic flow for research patients during active clinic operations
  • Ordering, tracking, storing, and reconciling investigational products in accordance with sponsor and FDA requirements
  • Maintaining regulatory binders, screening logs, delegation logs, source documents, study-specific forms, SOPs, fee slips, and IRB correspondence
  • Tracking approvals, renewals, amendments, adverse events, protocol deviations, and sponsor documentation
  • Coordinating photographer and imaging certification as required by study protocols
  • Helping maintain the RNW research webpage and study listings
  • Preparing for monitor visits, audits, and sponsor requests, and helping keep studies inspection-ready
  • Representing RNW professionally at approved investigator meetings and research conferences

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is organized, self-directed, and comfortable in a fast-paced clinical environment. This role calls for strong judgment, follow-through, and the ability to manage patient interaction, study coordination, technical detail, and documentation with a high level of independence.

Strong candidates will bring:

  • Clinical research coordination and regulatory documentation experience
  • Strong technical skills, including Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word, plus comfort with EMR systems, Adobe Acrobat, database tools, and digital file management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization, time management, and documentation habits
  • A solid understanding of FDA regulations, GCP, HIPAA, IRB processes, and documentation standards

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • GCP certification within 30 days of hire if not already held

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in ophthalmology or another specialty clinic strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences or a related field preferred, though an associate’s degree with at least two years of relevant research experience may be considered

Schedule and Work Setting

This is a full-time, exempt, in-person role. The schedule is generally Monday through Friday, with variable hours based on study volume and clinic needs. The role is based primarily at Sylvan and may involve occasional travel to other RNW locations as needed.

Pay and Benefits

Salary for this position is $56,160 to $66,560 annually.

Retina Northwest offers a strong benefits package for eligible employees, including:

  • Fully paid employee medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with employer contributions and profit sharing
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Employee Assistance Program

Additional benefits include life insurance, long-term disability, Flexible Spending Accounts, and continuing education support. Full-time staff receive comprehensive benefits and a supportive, team-oriented environment.

Physical and Mental Demands

This role is performed in a clinical and office setting and requires prolonged standing, sitting, and walking throughout the day, along with the vision, hearing, and manual dexterity needed for clinical procedures and computer work. It also requires the ability to stay organized, manage competing priorities, and maintain professionalism in a high-volume, patient-centered environment.
