Job Summary:
The CNC Lathe Operator for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC lathes to machine threaded connections and components in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and work instructions. The role requires hands-on experience machining threaded connections on Drill Pipe, Tubulars, or OCTG materials, with strong knowledge of Fanuc or Mazak controls.
RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILTY & AUTHORITY:
Machine Setup & Operation
- Set up and operate CNC lathes in accordance with specifications and job requirements.
- Machine threaded connections (API, GP, DS1, RSC, and other proprietary threads) and components per drawing and approved programs.
- Utilize and generate CNC programs using predefined templates and controls (Fanuc or Mazak).
- Ensure machines are maintained in proper working order, including performing routine and preventive maintenance each shift.
Quality & Inspection
- Inspect and verify all threads and machined parts to ensure compliance with provided specifications and quality standards.
- Record all dimensional and inspection data accurately in process sheets and logs.
- Identify and report drawing discrepancies or quality risks, recommending improvements where applicable.
- Stop production when necessary to prevent quality non-conformance.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate daily production and activity logs.
- Meet daily production targets while ensuring adherence to quality standards.
- Safeguard company property and equipment.
Additional Duties
- Perform other reasonable duties within capability as assigned by the Machine Shop Supervisor or Manager.
Authority & Accountability
- Authorized to report unsafe acts, quality risks, and workplace misconduct.
- Accountable for meeting daily production targets while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Accountable for compliance with company safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
- Authorized to halt production in case of safety or quality concerns

Technical Competencies
- Proven experience operating and setting up CNC lathes for threading and turning operations.
- Experience machining threaded connections for Drill Pipe, Tubulars, or OCTG materials.
- Knowledge of API, GP, DS1, RSC, and related thread forms.
- Working knowledge of Fanuc or Mazak controls.
- Ability to generate and modify CNC programs using predefined programming templates.
- Strong understanding of dimensional inspection tools and techniques.

Essential:
- Higher Secondary Certificate/Technical OR Relevant Work Experience/Training
- Must have a minimum 2 year of experience in operating a CNC machine on Rotary Shoulder Connection (API, Grant Prideco, Tenaris, VAM etc.), on Drill pipe, Drill collar, Drill Stem component, or similar background
- Knowledge of CNC tool setting
- Able to interpret engineering drawing & specification to API, Grant Prideco, DS1, VAM, etc.
- Able to use a wide variety of measuring equipment.
- Minimum knowledge of English (Verbal & writing)
Desirable:
- Diploma of Mechanical Engineering
- Preferably have Knowledge of machining Threaded Connections on Drill Pipe, Tubulars and OCTG material
- Preferably have Knowledge of Fanuc & Mazak control and CNC programming
