Productboard is looking for an in-house counsel with start-up experience, who is skilled in contracts, product counseling, and privacy work. The right candidate will be business minded and comfortable working in a fast-paced, tech focused start-up environment.
Responsibilities:
Commercial Counsel
Must be detail oriented and comfortable redlining and reviewing commercial agreements on a quick timetable with a “business-minded” mentality. Emphasis on “drafting to close.” Examples agreements include:
Vendor agreements (Data Processing Agreements, Master Agreements, and Order Forms)
Enterprise SaaS agreements (Master Subscription Agreement, Data Processing Agreements, and Order Forms)
Marketing agreements (Sponsorship and event agreements)
Consulting agreements
Partnership agreements
Data Protection, Privacy and Compliance
Must have expertise in Data Protection, Privacy, and how to maintain compliance with all Privacy regulations.
Review incoming privacy related questions from customers
Familiarity with reviewing cookies descriptions and best practices regarding cookie banners and Do Not Sell notices
Stay up to date on laws and make sure Productboard is implementing those correctly into agreements and Productboard’s website
Comfortable negotiating Data Processing Agreements and making changes to the company’s Data Processing Agreement template based on product team’s needs and regulations
Expertise in GDPR, EU-US Data Privacy Framework, CCPA, CPRA
Comfortable with redlining security addendums with guidance from Productboard’s Security Team
Familiarity with EU AI Act, building internal AI policies, and general AI privacy matters
Product Counseling
Provide legal guidance to product and engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle from ideation to launch and beyond.
Review, draft, and negotiate contracts related to product development to onboard critical subprocessors
Ability to help product with drafting notices for new subprocessors to customers
Advise on compliance matters related to product design, such as updating online agreements to cover new product features/offerings and ensuring proper consents and notices are displayed on the website
Support the implementation of privacy and data protection considerations in product development, including GDPR and CCPA compliance.

Familiarity with SOC2, ISO42001 and ISO27001 compliance best practices
Comfortable with open source
Experience working in house and at a start up a plus
Experience working with executives and senior leadership
Technology: Ironclad, Notion, Slack, Salesforce
The expected base pay range for this position in the San Francisco area is $205,575 - $274,100. In addition to the base pay, this role is eligible for competitive equity awards and benefits.
Productboard's pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
