Commodity Procurement Manager (Honey)

Position Summary:

Responsible for purchasing imported and domestic honey to support production needs. Oversees broker relationships, coordinates inbound raw honey deliveries to preferred production plants, and work with carriers and brokerages to ensure timely shipments. Partners with Quality, Finance, and Plant teams to ensure compliant, accurate, and cost-effective procurement.

Essential Functions:

This list is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary from time to time:

  • Purchase non-member raw honey (imported) in alignment with production plans and Sioux Honey specifications.
  • Coordinate raw honey sales and shipments.
  • Maintain clear communication with contract carriers and multiple truck brokerages to ensure timely delivery of inbound honey to designated plants.
  • Coordinate inbound honey scheduling with member beekeepers, brokers, and plant receiving teams to support efficient unloading and accurate receiving.
  • Source, qualify, and maintain relationships with brokers and beekeepers to ensure reliable supply and service.
  • Negotiate pricing and delivery terms; maintain contracts and documentation to reduce supply and financial risk.
  • Work with Quality to ensure procured honey meets food safety, regulatory, and import requirements.
  • Partner with Finance to verify invoices and support timely payment to approved brokers and resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor market conditions and supply risks; provide updates and recommendations for leadership.
  • Any other duties assigned by your supervisor or their managers.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, sometimes high pressure, environment.
  • Must be able to work in team situations.
  • Some knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration rules and regulations.
  • Must be dependable
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Business, Agriculture, or Transportation and Logistics.
  • Must be flexible and be willing to work outside regular business hours.
  • Must be open to limited overnight travel throughout the year.
  • Must have strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Strong computer skills with experience using SAP, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift to 50 LBS.
  • Ability to open and close truck trailer doors.

Description of the Work Environment: This position is part of the Member Relations Department and most of the work will take place within the Member Relations area of the facility. This position will come in contact with many other employees within the facility and it is the expectation of the organization that we always maintain an attitude of dignity and respect when interacting with each other.
