FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt


Work Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week), Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Kenton County Public Library is seeking a skilled Communications Coordinator to help share the story of our programs, services, and community impact.


This role serves as a primary writer and content developer for the Library system, producing content across multiple platforms including website pages, newsletters, emails, press releases, blog posts, and social media. The Communications Coordinator works closely with the Public Relations Director and collaborates with staff across branches and departments to ensure messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned with Library standards.


This is a full-time, on-site position based at the Administration Center. Core business hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required to support Library events and initiatives.


What You’ll Do

  • Write and edit clear, engaging content for a variety of platforms, including website pages, newsletters, emails, press releases, blog posts, and social media.
  • Develop concise, audience-focused messaging that promotes library programs, services, events, and initiatives.
  • Produce stories and features that highlight staff, patrons, and the library’s impact in the community.
  • Draft internal communications for staff audiences, including announcements, updates, and leadership messaging.
  • Support public relations efforts by drafting press materials, preparing talking points and background information, and helping coordinate media opportunities.
  • Assist with communications for major initiatives, seasonal campaigns, special events, and systemwide messaging.
  • Update and maintain website content to ensure accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and readability.
  • Apply basic SEO best practices and coordinate with digital and social media staff to align messaging across platforms.
  • Assist with digital content creation and serve as backup support for social media administration as needed.
  • Collaborate with branch staff and departments to gather information, identify story opportunities, and translate operational initiatives into clear public messaging.
  • Partner with graphic designers and digital staff to align written content with visual assets and maintain brand consistency.
  • Help manage editorial calendars and support content planning workflows.
  • Proofread and fact-check communications prior to publication.
  • Ensure messaging reflects established tone, voice, brand standards, accessibility guidelines, and inclusive language practices.
  • Build positive working relationships across departments to ensure communications are accurate, timely, and aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Support the library’s mission through thoughtful, strategic communication practices.
  • Contribute to departmental operations and special projects as needed.
  • Maintain regular, reliable attendance and flexibility to support events or initiatives outside standard hours when required.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support overall Library operations.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
  • Sound professional judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive or internal communications.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field
  • Minimum four (4) years of professional communications, writing, or public relations experience
  • Strong writing and editing skills with professional-level work samples
  • Ability to translate complex information into audience-friendly language
  • Experience managing multiple deadlines in a collaborative environment

Preferred

  • Experience in a library, nonprofit, educational, or public-sector setting
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms and email marketing tools
  • Understanding of digital analytics and performance metrics
