Communications Specialist

The Library is hiring for a full-time Communications Specialist, with a digital communications focus, at our Delaware Branch. This position will serve as a Library ambassador to educate, inform, and update the community of Library resources. This position also assists with programs, events, and services. This position will work a mix of days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for community events. However, the schedule may change, as the needs of the Library change.
Summary of Job Responsibilities: Reporting to the Communications Coordinator, the Communications Specialist works with the Communications Coordinator as a Library ambassador to educate, inform, and update the community of Library resources. Assists with programs, events, and services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing, digital/graphic design, or related field is required.
- One to two years of related experience or any equivalent combination of experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability is required.
- Ability to work days, evenings, weekends, and some holidays as needed for community events is required. The schedule may change as the needs of the Library change.
- Ability to travel between Library locations as needed is required.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Employment Contingencies:
- Must possess a valid State of Ohio Driver’s License and acceptable driving record, with constant maintenance of eligibility to operate motor vehicles under the standards of the vehicle liability insurance carrier of the Library.
- Must satisfactorily complete a background investigation.

- Working knowledge of public relations management.
- Strong technology skills, including website content management, graphic design, social media management, and proficiency in current relevant hardware and software.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with above-average knowledge of English grammar and punctuation.
- Basic photography and videography knowledge.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees daily operations of the Library’s graphic design/brand management and website/digital communications.
- Performs tasks essential to the Communication operations.
- Writes content for Library emails, newsletters, magazines, promotions, and media communications regarding Library resources and events.
- Assists in organizing and planning Library events.
- Creates content for multiple marketing platforms.
- Provides communication support for staff projects, committees, and programs.
- Upholds and educates brand standards through Library communications.
- Communicates with media.
- Stays up-to-date with new developments, best practices, participates in continuing education events, and attends appropriate conferences/trainings.
- Participates in the state library association and/or other professional organization as assigned.
- Attends regular staff and committee meetings as assigned.
- Supports and implements the Library’s Mission Statement, Vision Statement, Strategic Plan, and Customer Service Expectations.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

Working Conditions:
- All Library positions require some or varying levels of physical activity, including standing, walking, reaching, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and grasping.
- Ability to sit/stand and use computer for extended periods and standard office equipment daily.
- The majority of work is performed in a public building office environment.
- Hybrid work eligible, based on job duties/responsibilities and needs of the Library.
- Ability to work and drive in adverse weather conditions.
- Requires driving and operating Library vehicles, including Library Bookmobile.
- Employees should be able to lift and/or carry 25 lbs. consistently and 75 lbs. occasionally.
- Requires ability for extended hours as needed.
- Requires occasional evening and/or weekends as needed.
- Requires periodic participation and attendance at events and trainings.
