Responsible for managing internal and external communications with an emphasis on providing marketing support. This includes writing, editing, creating, and publishing flyers, brochures, newsletters, and other materials that are distributed to the public, related agencies, and elected officials. Work includes preparing layouts, coordinating printing, distribution, and drafting content for mass media and websites. Conducts outreach to diverse communities to increase awareness of programs and services. Assists with the implementation of special events, programs, services, and speaking engagements. Responds verbally and in writing to public inquiries or concerns and determines appropriate information to be distributed. Work requires familiarity with the Department’s various parks, programs, and services. May be responsible for supervising other functions of the Department. Work is performed independently under general supervision and is reviewed through conferences and written reports. Performs related work as required.


QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following:


  • An Associate’s Degree in Public/Media Relations, Communication, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field; minimum of one (1) year of responsible office experience related to public/media relations, marketing, or professional/business-level social media,

OR


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Public/Media Relations, Communication, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field,

OR


  • An unrelated Associate’s Degree; minimum of two (2) years of responsible office experience related to public/media relations, marketing, or professional/business-level social media,

OR


  • Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of three (3) years of responsible office experience related to public/media relations, marketing, or professional/business-level social media.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite (must specify on application),
  • Experience in marketing and managing social media platforms,
  • Experience in website design,
  • Experience providing programs/services or outreach to diverse communities, and
  • Bi/trilingual (English/Spanish/Creole).
