Community Engagement Manager

Position Purpose


The Community Engagement Manager leads the development and execution of community-based engagement initiatives that build awareness of Riley Children’s Foundation and inspire support for children’s health. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Marketing & Communications, this position partners with internal teams and external stakeholders to align community programs with fundraising and brand objectives, steward meaningful relationships with families and ambassadors, and represent the Foundation through events, sponsorships, and speaking engagements. The Manager oversees community event programming, sponsorship activations, and special projects that strengthen the presence of Riley Children’s Foundation and impact across the communities we serve.


Key Responsibilities


  • Community Engagement Program Management
  • In collaboration with AVP Marketing & Communications and development team, lead and manage community engagement programs and initiatives, ensuring alignment with Foundation priorities, fundraising goals, and brand standards.
  • Coordinate timelines, logistics, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-quality community and family engagement experiences.

  • Riley Champions
  • Lead the annual Riley Champions program, including oversight of nominations, selection process, and coordination with participating families.
  • Manage logistics and engagement strategies to maximize program impact, visibility, and philanthropic outcomes.
  • Partner with Development and Communications teams to identify meaningful opportunities for family involvement and storytelling.
  • Evaluate opportunities to establish and steward a Riley Champions alumni program.


  • Riley Family Stewardship
  • Obtain, track, and manage Riley family story submissions and media consent forms.
  • Write patient story overviews as needed and maintain accurate, up-to-date family records in the database, including media consents and interaction history.
  • Identify and elevate compelling family stories for potential use in publications and campaigns.
  • Develop and execute communications and engagement strategies to support philanthropic outcomes for the Grateful Families program.
  • Organize, update, and steward Riley family and patient bios, including occasional check-in calls and emails.
  • Coordinate outreach to families for speaking engagements, event participation, and permission to use images and stories.
  • Manage family welcome packets, logistical support (e.g., gas cards, hotel accommodations, gifts), and sensitive communications, including funeral arrangements when needed.
  • Implement and continuously improve intentional, relationship-centered family stewardship practices.


  • Events & Community Engagement
  • Support family logistics and on-site engagement for signature events, as requested.
  • Serve as liaison for special projects and community engagement initiatives (e.g., speaker requests, special partnerships), assisting with planning and execution as needed.
  • Manage external sponsorship engagements, including benefits and collaboration with Communications team members to develop any necessary assets
  • In collaboration with AVP Marketing & Communications, Executive Office, and Donor Engagement, develop compelling and engaging talking points for speakers at signature events when appropriate.
  • In collaboration with Communications Specialist, guide Camp Riley projects, visitor and volunteer requests, and consider communications strategies to assist philanthropy.


  • Administrative
Maintain accountability to administrative systems and procedures including submitting expense reimbursements, credit card reconciliations, invoices, reports, Wrike, CRM, digital asset management system, RCF calendar additions, etc., by the deadlines assigned.
  • Meetings: Prepare for and actively participate in all Riley Children’s Foundation meetings as appropriate. Ensure expectations and tools for meeting agendas and follow-up are implemented.
  • Budget: Work with your direct manager to develop, manage and monitor the budget, staying within overall budget guidelines.
  • Technology: Understand and effectively use the technology available at the Riley Children’s Foundation.
  • Compliance: Ensure strict compliance with all Foundation policies, as well as local, state and federal laws that govern business practices.

Education and Experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Experience: Five to seven years of marketing and/or communications experience.
  • Skills: Exceptional customer service approach. Individual must be exceedingly well organized and have high attention to detail. The ability to interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products with a key focus on Word, Excel and Outlook; experience with SharePoint is a plus. Proficiency in use of databases.
