Role in the organization, overseeing legal matters and ensuring compliance. Key responsibilities include
Contract and document management
- Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including distributor/direct seller agreements, vendor contracts, partnership agreements, and product-related claims.
- Ensure legal agreements align with business objectives while mitigating contractual and operational risks.
- Advise on and approve all marketing materials, promotional content, and sales strategies to ensure full compliance.
Litigation and dispute resolution
- Manage all litigation and disputes, coordinating with and overseeing external legal counsel when necessary.
- Represent the company in legal proceedings, hearings, and arbitrations.
- Develop and implement mitigation strategies to address identified legal risks.
Stakeholder communication
- Act as the primary liaison between the company and regulatory bodies, such as the Direct Selling Association (DSA).
- Collaborate with other departments, including sales, marketing, and finance, to ensure a unified approach to compliance.
- Provide training and education to direct sellers and internal staff on legal and compliance matters.
Qualifications and skills
- Education: LLB or equivalent degree from an accredited law school. Active bar membership in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in a legal role, with significant experience in a corporate legal department or as corporate counsel.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in a legal management or leadership position.
- Demonstrated experience with the direct selling or MLM industry is highly preferred.
- Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of direct selling laws and regulations, consumer protection, e-commerce rules, and corporate governance.
- In-depth understanding of contract law, intellectual property, and litigation management.
- Skills:
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and legal drafting skills.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills for advising senior management and training sales teams.
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex legal projects and work effectively under pressure.
- High ethical standards and a strong sense of professional integrity.
