Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week with occasional evening, weekend hours and holidays. Hours may change based on business need.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in public affairs, communications, political science, business, or a related field.

Preferred Education:
  • Master’s degree in public policy, Strategic Communications, or a related discipline.

Experience:
  • Four years of experience in community engagement, public relations, government affairs, or stakeholder outreach.
  • Experience representing an organization in public settings and building relationships with external partners is essential.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience working with elected officials, chambers of commerce, nonprofit organizations, or civic groups.
  • Familiarity with regional dynamics and community issues within assigned geographic areas.
  • Prior experience in a public-sector or government agency setting is a plus.

Substitutions:
  • One year (30 semester hours) of education from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of work experience up to a maximum of 4 years.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver's license, current proof of automobile insurance and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of employment.

  • This position requires the incumbent to have the ability to lift, transfer, push and/or pull as much as 35 pounds in weight and be able to sit and/or stand for long periods.
  • This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed to perform similar routine office duties. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions and changes in environmental conditions including but not limited to close quarters, noise, and fluctuation in lighting and temperatures. Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials.

In this role:
You will be performing highly complex (senior-level) informational and communications work. Community Affairs Regional Representatives serve as the Comptroller’s local outreach presence in communities across Texas. Based within an assigned region, this role builds relationships with local leaders, engages community stakeholders, and represents the Comptroller’s office at public events. Regional Representatives play a key role in ensuring Texans are informed about agency initiatives and programs while also elevating local priorities to agency leadership. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Duties include:
  • Representing the Comptroller’s office at community, business, and civic events within the assigned multi-county region.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with local officials, chambers of commerce, business leaders, nonprofit organizations, and other key stakeholders.
  • Providing feedback and reporting to Public Affairs leadership on regional concerns, opportunities, and outreach outcomes.
  • Supporting the planning and execution of local initiatives and events in coordination with the Community Affairs Coordinator and Public Affairs team.
  • Facilitating the scheduling of information programs, conferences, seminars, workshops, and public hearings.
  • Connecting taxpayers and other concerned constituents to the appropriate agency division in a timely fashion, serving as a conduit for highly responsive customer service and casework assistance.
  • Responding to general inquiries about agency activities
  • Assisting with staffing the Acting Comptroller at public events within the assigned region.
  • Analyzing content for accessibility and recommends changes to make content accessible and remediate accessibility issues.
  • Connecting taxpayers and other concerned constituents to the appropriate agency division in a timely fashion, serving as a conduit for highly responsive customer service and casework assistance.
  • Serving as a direct point of contact for community leaders seeking information or assistance from the Comptroller’s office.
  • Communicating the Comptroller’s priorities and programs to local audiences, ensuring consistent and accurate messaging.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Have knowledge of:
  • Agency functions, policies, and procedures; news and communication media; various social media platforms; editing and preparing informational material; design principles; and publishing and broadcast industries. Management techniques; statistical analysis processes; budget processes; and research techniques.

Have skill in:
  • Editorial and design practices, and in the use of a computer and applicable software.
  • Effectively conveying information and encouraging an exchange of ideas.
  • Skill in identifying measures or indicators of program performance and in the use of a computer and applicable software
  • Identifying, defining, and solving problems.

Have ability to:
  • Research and prepare information, to design communication plans and materials related to the goals and priorities of the agency, to compose usable content for websites and social media, to prepare copy and scripts, to design broad communications plans and materials, and to communicate effectively.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect the privacy of state employees, taxpayers, and other members of the public.
  • Follow all agency confidentiality, privacy, and information security policies and procedures.
  • Appropriately store, secure, and protect sensitive records and other confidential documents and data in accordance with the agency’s certified Records Retention Schedule.
  • Seek guidance and clarification from relevant agency specialists when potential confidential issues arise.
  • Use discretion and appropriate judgement in communicating confidential and sensitive information.
  • Work with others to achieve a common goal.
  • Adjust to changing workplace demands.
  • Meet the needs and expectations of internal and external customers.
  • Effectively demonstrate skill and ability to perform the specific job duties and tasks as defined by a job description.
  • Be dependable, meet deadlines and produce high-quality work.
