Position Summary

Superior Rigging and Erecting is seeking an experienced Construction Corporate Director of Safety responsible for leading and advancing the company’s enterprise safety strategy across all operations.

This role establishes the vision, systems, and leadership standards required to achieve world class safety performance across complex construction environments including crane and rigging operations, steel erection, heavy lifts, and specialty construction projects.

The Corporate Director of Safety serves as the senior authority on occupational health and safety and is responsible for building scalable safety systems, strengthening operational risk management, and elevating the company’s safety culture across all field and corporate functions.

The organization is seeking a safety leader with significant construction industry experience, preferably from a large general contractor environment, who can introduce advanced safety systems, strengthen operational discipline, and elevate safety performance across the enterprise. This role will report directly to the Chief Risk Officer and will work closely to all executive leadership, project management and field leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Safety Leadership and Strategy

  • Develop and lead the company’s enterprise safety strategy across all projects and operational locations.
  • Establish corporate safety standards, policies, and procedures aligned with Occupational Safety and Health Administration construction standards and construction industry best practices.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to executive leadership on occupational health and safety matters.
  • Establish leading and lagging safety performance indicators and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure safety expectations are integrated into project planning, operational execution, and field leadership accountability.

Construction Safety Program Development

  • Design and implement comprehensive safety programs supporting crane operations, steel erection, rigging, heavy lift operations, and specialty construction activities.
  • Develop safety systems addressing high-risk construction activities including fall protection, crane operations, lift planning, rigging systems, and structural erection.
  • Maintain enterprise safety manuals, policies, procedures, and operational safety standards.
  • Ensure safety programs scale effectively across multiple projects, jobsite locations, and operational teams.

Jobsite Safety Leadership and Field Engagement

  • Conduct regular job-site safety audits and operational safety reviews across active project locations.
  • Partner with Operations, Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to proactively identify and mitigate jobsite safety risks.
  • Provide safety leadership and oversight during planning and execution of high-risk activities including heavy lifts and complex erection operations.
  • Strengthen field leadership accountability for safety planning and safe execution.

Incident Investigation and Risk Reduction

  • Lead investigations for serious incidents, near misses, and high potential events.
  • Implement structured root cause analysis and corrective action processes.
  • Analyze incident data and safety trends to identify systemic risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop prevention strategies to reduce recordable injuries, lost time incidents, and high-risk exposures.

Safety Training and Workforce Development

  • Oversee development and delivery of safety training programs for field personnel, supervisors, and project leadership.
  • Strengthen safety competencies across craft workers, foremen, and management teams.
  • Partner with Learning and Development leadership to integrate safety training into workforce development programs.
  • Safety Culture and Leadership Engagement
  • Promote a proactive safety culture centered on accountability, hazard recognition, and prevention.
  • Lead safety engagement initiatives that increase field participation and ownership.
  • Ensure leadership at all levels reinforces safe work practices and operational discipline.

Safety Performance Monitoring and Reporting

  • Establish and track safety performance metrics including Total Recordable Incident Rate, DART rate, near misses, and leading indicators.
  • Provide safety performance reporting to executive leadership and operational teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on data driven analysis and operational feedback.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Construction Management, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field required.
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration 30 Hour Construction Certification required.
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration 500 Construction Outreach Trainer Certification strongly preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional, Construction Health and Safety Technician, or similar safety credential strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 10+ years of construction safety leadership experience.
  • Prior safety leadership experience with a large general contractor or complex construction organization is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration construction standards including 29 CFR 1926 regulations.
  • Experience managing safety programs across multiple construction projects and active jobsites.
  • Demonstrated experience leading incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and field engagement capabilities.
  • Ability to influence both executive leadership and field operations teams.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and work in active construction environments.

Work Environment

This position is based at the company’s Atlanta headquarters and requires regular travel to jobsites, equipment yards, and operational facilities. The Corporate Director of Safety must be comfortable working in active construction environments including steel erection, crane operations, heavy lifting activities, and industrial jobsite conditions.
