Duties & Responsibilites
The Contract Specialist / Contract Administrator is responsible for managing, reviewing, and administering construction contracts throughout the project lifecycle. This role ensures that all contractual obligations are met, risks are minimized, and all documentation complies with legal, company, and project standards.
Pre-Contract Stage:
- Assist in the preparation and review of tender documents, including terms and conditions.
- Collaborate with estimators and project managers to ensure scope and pricing align with contract terms.
- Participate in contract negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Post-Contract Stage:
- Administer contracts in accordance with standard forms such as FIDIC, NEC, JCT, or bespoke agreements.
- Track key contract milestones and deliverables (e.g., start dates, completion dates, payment terms).
- Prepare and process contractual correspondence including notices, claims, extensions of time, and variations.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all contractual documentation and communications.
- Support the project team in managing contract compliance and dispute resolution.
- Liaise with legal advisors where necessary on complex contractual issues.
- Evaluate and assess subcontractor claims and applications for payment.
- Support final account preparation and close-out processes.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Law, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification or training in contract management (e.g., MRICS, CICES, AACEI, or NEC accreditation) is an advantage.
Experience:
- 3–7 years of experience in contract administration or contract management in the construction industry.
- Proven experience working with standard contract forms (FIDIC, JCT, NEC, etc.).
- Experience in large-scale infrastructure or building projects is preferred.
- Skills and Competencies:
- In-depth understanding of contract law and construction contracts.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and risk management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in document management.
- Ability to work collaboratively with project teams, clients, and legal counsel.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with contract management software (e.g., Aconex, Procore, or similar) is a plus.
