Control Room Operator

Responsibilities

• Operate the units as prescribed by the Work Instruction Procedures.
• Provide Operations support & guidance during the commissioning of the plants.
• Maintain accurate document control and monitor quality assurance initiatives.
• Provide Operations guidance to ensure safety, reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, and controls.
• Manage plant production efficiently based on input from Plant Management and Plant Process Engineering to ensure safety and reliability targets are met to achieve maximum profitability.
• Report shift production progress and plant status to the Shift Supervisor, providing operational solutions for shortfall areas.
• Provide technical support & guidance during the startup/shutdown of the plants.
• Assist Operations in maintaining accurate document control and monitoring quality assurance initiatives.
• Train Senior Operators, Engineers, and Supervisors within the control system to ensure adequate coverage and continuity of operation.
• Provide shift technical support to ensure the safe and reliable operation of equipment, processes, utilities, and controls is achieved as prescribed by the Work Instruction Procedures.
• Lead troubleshooting activities and participate as the technical lead for Root Cause Investigations, leading technical reviews as required.
• Monitor plant production daily, driving asset performance & ensuring daily targets are met to achieve maximum profitability.
• Provide Operations team support and safety leadership for MOCs and other safety related initiatives to drive process safety compliance.
• Operate the facility ensuring Environmental and Regulatory requirements are not exceeded.
• Engage in all aspects of plant operations, DCS and filed, to effectively operate the plant & meet the customer's satisfaction on safety, reliability, product quality, and flexibility of product supply while complying with contractual requirements.
• Support & maintain close working relationships with engineering and maintenance personnel to continuously monitor & evaluate plant systems & equipment through a Plant Process Advisory Model.
• Support the maintenance and engineering team in maintaining plant reliability through the execution of preventive maintenance activities, scheduling and coordinating corrective maintenance activities to optimize operations during plant shutdowns and avoid business interruption.
• Provide operations support and participate in investigations and Root Cause Analysis to identify & implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Facilitate attainment of operational excellence and customer satisfaction via operations productivity, reliability, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Communicate plant activities with other shifts to maintain continuity between shifts for a safe and reliable operation.
• Provide Operations Specialist Engineering leadership to drive asset performance, including troubleshooting, plant efficiency, process safety, equipment reliability, and advanced controls initiatives.
• Execute other duties as assigned from reporting managers in a timely and efficient manner.

Qualifications

• Engineering Degree or 3 year technical school certificate.
• Experience in process plant operation, at least 5+ years of plant control room operations experience.
• High leadership and supervisory skills; team player with the ability to work collaboratively.
• Understanding of the operational mode of a controller - manual, automatic, cascade, setpoint of process variable, controller output, etc.
• Ability to multitask, perform under stressful conditions, and respond and adapt in changing conditions.
• High level of proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Knowledgeable in the coordination of operations and maintenance activities.
