Position Summary

With the upcoming retirement of our long-time Controller, we are seeking a proven financial leader to guide the next phase of success for Allied's Accounting Department. The Controller is the senior accounting leader ultimately responsible for property and corporate financial reporting, internal controls, regulatory compliance, banking relationships, and accounting team leadership. This role partners directly with the President and executive team to ensure timely and accurate reporting, client satisfaction as it relates to accounting matters, and internal team growth and development.

This is a hands-on leadership role. The Controller must be equally comfortable leading and mentoring fellow team members, communicating with clients as needed, and digging into journal entries, reconciliations, and system workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Lead and develop the Accounting Department, including Assistant Controllers, Accounts Payable Manager, and others
  • Drive accountability, performance standards, and process improvement in both our Allied workflows and Yardi accounting platform.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide training and development opportunities to build long-term bench strength within the Allied Accounting Department.

Financial ReportingControls

  • Oversee ongoing financial reporting for properties and corporate.
  • Review and approve applicable funds transfers, account modifications, and client accounting workflow change requests.
  • Ensure financial reporting and bank reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
  • Strengthen and document internal controls and accounting procedures.

BankingCash Management

  • Manage banking relationships and corporate cash management.
  • Oversee wires, ACH transactions, reserve transfers, and security deposit transfers.
  • Maintain management fee tracking and collections.

ComplianceRegulatory

  • Oversee B&O tax filings and regulatory reporting.
  • Manage CPA coordination and year-end close processes.
  • Ensure timely completion of 1099s and required state filings.

SystemsTechnology

  • Serve as senior accounting lead for Yardi and related systems.
  • Oversee financial system integrity and user security.
  • Partner with IT providers to maintain secure, stable infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Minimum 5 years progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory leadership experience.
  • Extensive experience with Yardi property management accounting software (required).
  • Advanced Excel proficiency.
  • Strong understanding of accrual and cash accounting.
  • Experience in multifamily property management required.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Strong and clear communication skills, whether through email, virtually (Teams, Zoom) or in-person.

CompensationBenefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • 152 hours (19 days) PTO annually, plus carry-over up to 120 hours and longevity PTO at 5 and 9 years
