What We’re Looking For

Candidate Description

The ideal Controller is a detail-oriented, hands-on finance leader who thrives in a high-growth, fast-moving environment. You are technically strong in accounting principles and systems, but equally comfortable stepping back to support strategic decisions with timely analysis and insights.

You bring deep experience in GAAP-compliant financial reporting, inventory and distribution accounting, and multi-system workflows — and you are not afraid to roll up your sleeves to get things done accurately and on time. You are comfortable owning the close process end-to-end, managing external relationships with auditors and tax advisors, and driving ERP implementation projects forward.

You communicate clearly, hold yourself and your team accountable, and understand that trust is built through consistency and precision. This role is well-suited for someone who wants to build scalable financial infrastructure and grow alongside a company that is scaling rapidly.

Primary Duties & Key Outcomes

Financial Reporting & Accuracy

  • Oversee and perform financial close processes to ensure timely completion within agreed business day targets and zero material errors or restatements.
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP, maintaining a clean, reconciled general ledger and supporting schedules at all times.
  • Ensure the accuracy of inventory accounting, including cost of goods sold (COGS), in a distribution environment.

Operational Accounting & Compliance

  • Manage and perform accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management.
  • Manage sales tax reporting and filings using Avalara, ensuring 100% on-time and accurate submissions.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners to ensure on-time completion of all filings and minimal or zero control deficiencies.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, monitor for effectiveness, and recommend improvements.

Systems & Process Excellence

  • Lead or provide critical support for NetSuite implementation project phases and optimization.
  • Maintain and enhance accounting workflows across QuickBooks and integrated systems to create documented, repeatable processes.
  • Partner with operations and leadership to improve financial process efficiency and reporting capabilities to support team scalability.

Team & Strategic Contribution

  • Work closely with leadership to support financial decision-making with timely analysis and insights, providing the clear visibility needed for confident business decisions.
  • Assess, shape, and lead the accounting team—including hiring decisions—to ensure the team is developed and positioned for growth alongside the company.
  • Assist in building a scalable financial infrastructure to support future growth and operational continuity.
