GENERAL FUNCTION: This position supports the work of the Greater Wichita YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Responsible for preparation of financial reports, daily balancing and monthly reconciliation activities. Assists with the annual external audit, the 990 tax return and preparation of information for outside funders. Supervises senior accounting staff involved with daily/monthly reconciliation procedures.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred, Associate’s degree in accounting or related field plus at least two years of accounting experience, or equivalent relevant experience as a controller

2. Knowledge of general ledger and accounting functions

3. Knowledge of and expertise with computerized accounting systems and sound working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, and Access databases

PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively with people and monitor property and activity.

2. High level of alertness, concentration and initiative.

3. Ability to adapt to working in changing conditions and environments.

4. Able to stand, walk or sit for prolonged periods; occasionally stoop / bend.

5. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.

6. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

6. Able to travel to various sites throughout the Greater Wichita YMCA.

7. Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to investigate variances within detailed transactions.

8. Must be highly organized and have the ability to work with confidential matters.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts; prepares journal entries as needed.

2. Performs activities related to month-end and year-end closings, including preparation of monthly financial statements and related financial analysis.

3. Prepares and reconciles accounts for year-end annual audit, including preparation of audit workpapers.

4. Assist with management of accounting and budget systems, and training of others within the Association on those systems.

5. Provides leadership to the annual budget process including training staff, review of budgets, overseeing data input, and preparing reports.

6. Performs daily reconciliation of cash activity and month-end bank reconciliations; oversight of personnel that perform daily deposit / cash management functions.

7. Oversight of cash management functions for 3rd party systems used for personal training and concessions.

8. Oversight of processes related to returned checks and management of chargeback / bank dispute notices.

9. Supervision of accounting personnel including accounts payable, billing specialist and cash management positions.

10.Implements appropriate systems and internal controls to adequately safeguard financial resources and to provide a solid basis for accurately reporting financial data.

11.Takes initiative to develop others.

12.Embraces new approaches and discovers ideas to create a better member experience.

13.Demonstrates an openness to change and seeks opportunities in the change process.

14.Clarifies tasks, plans work and actively participates in meetings.

15.Performs other duties as assigned.

EFFECT ON END RESULT: All YMCA accounting and business processes and procedures will meet or exceed needs of staff and members to provide the highest quality service.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
