The Opportunity
We are seeking someone currently operating at a Director of Accounting (or similar) level who wants to broaden their impact and own the full financial function, who is ready to step into a strategic leadership role by becoming our Controller.
This is not a traditional, back-office Controller role. You will be a key business partner to the Founder and executive team, responsible for turning financial data into actionable insights that drive profitability, operational efficiency, and smarter decision-making.
You’ll play a critical role in helping us scale from strong growth to sustained, optimized performance.
What You’ll Do
1. Build Job Costing & Profitability Visibility
- Design and implement a robust job costing system across 1,500+ annual projects
- Analyze true project-level profitability, including direct and indirect costs
- Identify margin drivers across job types, pricing models, and customer segments
- Develop financial models to guide pricing and improve gross margins
- Deliver clear, actionable reporting on profitability trends to leadership
2. Drive Operational Efficiency & Financial Performance
- Evaluate current operations to identify inefficiencies and cost-saving opportunities
- Partner cross-functionally to streamline processes and improve financial outcomes
- Establish KPIs to monitor operational and financial performance across departments
- Lead initiatives to improve profitability with a target of $10M profit on $40M revenue
- Build scalable systems that support growth without unnecessary overhead
3. Lead Strategic Financial Planning & Decision Support
- Develop forecasting models and scenario planning for a changing solar market
- Own FP&A processes and elevate financial visibility across the business
- Provide insights and recommendations on strategic decisions (expansion, pricing, new offerings)
- Present clear, concise financial reporting to executive leadership
- Establish and maintain strong financial controls and reporting integrity

Who You Are
- A Director of Accounting / Senior Accounting Leader ready to step into a Controller role
- Highly analytical with strong financial modeling and business insight
- Experienced in job costing, project-based accounting, or construction/solar/home services industries
- A builder—comfortable creating systems, processes, and structure from the ground up
- Strategic thinker who can connect financial data to business outcomes
- Strong communicator who can influence leaders across functions
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Experience leading accounting or finance teams
- Strong expertise in financial modeling, forecasting, and FP&A
- Proven success improving financial performance and operational efficiency
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems and process implementation
