Compensation Range: $40 - 50 per hour
Our client, a leader in the retail space, is seeking a detail-oriented Copywriter to craft compelling narratives across a diverse range of product categories. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in web-first storytelling and a proven track record in ecommerce, retail, and personalized 1:1 marketing. Responsibilities:
- Compose copy that gets to the heart of who our customers are and inspire them. You'll cover a range of topics, assets, and channel types.
- Gain a deep understanding of our brand's core principles, tone and voice, plus copy and campaign style guides, applying that understanding to crafting copy that supports business goals.
- Handle multiple copy projects on different timelines with varying levels of ambiguity, complexity and importance to the business with the support of copy leadership.
- Meet copy deadlines in coordination with project management, account management and creative team.
- Prepare well-structured drafts that are on-brief, meet our tone of voice, demonstrate your knowledge of our customer and your ability to do research on a subject, product, industry, company/organization and technology.
- In partnership with copy leadership, collaborate with design and other team members to come up with creative solutions to meet business goals.
- Use critical thinking skills to translate strategic marketing initiatives into informative, concise and compelling copy solutions.
- Make edits following feedback from partners including marketers, site managers, editors, legal and copy leadership.
- Guided by the copy leadership, approach copy feedback and edits from partners with a positive, collaborative attitude and willingness to learn and grow.
- Take character limitations and design constraints into account when creating copy and partner with editors and copy leadership to resolve writing or grammar issues.
- Adhere to the evolution of the brand tone of voice and copy style guide.
- Attend and engage in project kick-off and follow-up meetings by asking proactive questions, seeking clarity, pushing on the brief and anticipating required information to compose effective copy. Confidently explain creative choices and work with partners to reach consensus on feedback.
- Ensure copy is error-free, participate in the quality assurance (QA) phases of projects to help ensure all final copy has been correctly implemented online and conduct audits to identify and document errors.
- Stay up to date on competitors, technology developments, plus industry and media trends as it pertains to retail and marketing.
- Maintain a positive, can-do attitude. Seek answers to ambiguous asks, be comfortable working autonomously and quickly pivot direction based on changing business needs.
Qualifications:
- BA in Journalism, Creative Writing, Advertising, or related field.
- 2-3 years of copywriting experience.
- 2 years' experience copywriting for an ecommerce brand.
- Ability to work autonomously and self-manage, as well as collaborate closely.
- Excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves and do what it takes to get the job done.
- Strong organizational skills, a strong sense of ownership and accountability, and the ability to be a self-starter.
- Proactive, comfortable with ambiguity, and flexible in the face of shifting business needs due to the rapidly changing nature of marketing, retail, and ecommerce.
- High emotional intelligence, excellent relationship-building skills, able to manage expectations well across a wide variety of partners and expertise areas.
- Fantastic sense of humor is a plus!
