Position Description

The Corporate Communications Supervisor leads communications efforts for key utility-wide matrixed projects and programs, developing and implementing communications plans and strategies supporting internal and external utility initiatives. As a senior communications professional, this strategic advisor exercises a high level of autonomy, judgement, influence, and responsibility while cultivating and leveraging strong relationships across the utility, City departments, and with employees, customers and stakeholders. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, creative, and passionate about the role of communications in supporting Seattle Public Utilities’ General Managers Office in alignment with SPU’s Strategic Business Plan (SBP) and E-Team Priorities and in coordination across SPU’s communications efforts. This position will report to the Communications Director and will supervise a team of 4 or more FTE’s and temporary employees in delivering utility-wide internal and external communications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leading the implementation of SPU’s Employee Strategic Communications Plan and contributing to its ongoing development.
  • Supporting the planning and implementation of employee engagement campaigns and events.
  • Developing new and improved channels for communicating with employees.
  • Supporting development and implementation of employee engagement surveys and other feedback tools, analyzing data, and refining communication strategies.
  • Managing SPU’s annual editorial communication calendar and coordination.
  • Creating and curating content for internal and external communications channels, including intranet, email, print, and digital signage with an emphasis on storytelling and promoting SPU's values and services; and increasing usability and accessibility of information to SPU employees.
  • Setting KPI’s and providing regular reporting on channel engagement and other performance data.
  • Overseeing related budgets and consultants.
  • Supervising corporate communications and digital communications staff.
  • Participating in the on-call after-hours outage duty rotation, which may require independent interaction with the media, managing social media, and responding to customer requests for information.
  • Serve as Acting Director as needed.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience Five (5) years professional experience in employee communications, community affairs, public administration or related field.

AND

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration/Management, Communications or related field.

OR

Experience and Education Equivalency: In lieu of a bachelor's degree in an accredited program, seven (7) years in communications, community affairs, public administration or related field can be substituted.


Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Work is usually performed in an office environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • One year of supervisory experience
Special Conditions: May require occasional weekend and evening hours.

Workplace Environment:
This position requires 5 days on-site.


The full salary range for this position is $54.60 - $81.93 per hour.
