Description of Work

Reporting to the Correctional Programs Supervisor, this position will carry a caseload of male medium custody level offenders which involves supportive counseling, answering and following up on questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting in major dynamic programs or coordinating major specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders such as offender work assignments, work release, education, or recreation; as well as transition planning and coordinating.
  • Working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive.
  • Conducting continuous visual and audio surveillance of assigned work area.
  • Operating various office machines accurately.
  • Preparing written reports and forms reflecting accurate information reviewed from various sources.
  • Demonstrating and instructing offenders in the proper and safe use of tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documentation, and personal observations.
  • Performing crisis intervention and routine counseling, to include suicide prevention.

Salary Range: $37,377 - $65,408

Necessary Special Qualifications :

MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

To be considered for a Correctional Case Manager position, ALL applicants must :

  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Required Adverse Weather Reporting :

This position is designated as “Mandatory” and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

The salary grade for this position is NC07 . State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. About the Division of Institutions :

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

About Harnett Correctional Institution:

Harnett Correctional Institution is located in Lillington, North Carolina and houses up to 988 male offenders in a medium custody facility.
