Job Purpose

The Cost Accountant is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and controlling project costs in the engineering and construction environment. The role ensures accurate cost reporting, budget compliance, and financial support for projects and tender submissions, contributing to overall profitability and financial discipline.

Key Responsibilities

Project Costing & Analysis
  • Monitor project costs and prepare cost reports for ongoing projects.
  • Conduct variance analysis between budgets, estimates, and actual costs.
  • Support project managers with cost forecasting, budgeting, and resource planning.
  • Maintain a cost database for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overheads.
Tender & Commercial Support
  • Assist in financial preparation of tender proposals.
  • Review BOQs, commercial terms, and pricing schedules for accuracy and feasibility.
  • Provide costing insights and margin analysis to support bid submissions.
  • Identify financial risks related to contracts and project execution.
Accounting & Reporting
  • Ensure all project costs are accurately recorded in the accounting system.
  • Reconcile project accounts, vendor invoices, and subcontractor payments.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and company policies.
Coordination & Compliance
  • Liaise with Project Managers, Commercial/Estimation Engineers, Procurement, and Finance teams.
  • Provide financial support for change orders, variations, and claims.
  • Assist in audits and preparation of management reports for senior management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
  • 3–7 years of experience in cost accounting, project accounting, or finance in the construction, engineering, or BIM consultancy industry.
  • Knowledge of project costing, budgets, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with engineering/consultancy contracts is an advantage.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and project financial management.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and accounting software.
  • Good knowledge of contract terms, billing, and payment schedules.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial analysis and reporting.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
