1. Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis
- Conduct detailed psychological assessments for patients with substance use disorders and elderly residents.
- Use standardized tools for addiction severity, mental health screening, cognitive assessment, dementia, depression, anxiety, etc.
- Prepare individualized psychological case profiles and treatment recommendations.
- Identify co-morbid psychiatric or cognitive conditions and refer to psychiatrists when required.
2. Individual Therapy & Counseling
- Provide one-to-one counseling sessions for:
- Substance dependence (alcohol, drugs, prescription medication, etc.)
- Emotional distress, relapse triggers, cravings, and motivation enhancement
- Elderly patients dealing with loneliness, grief, anxiety, depression, fear, and adjustment issues
- Apply evidence-based therapies such as:
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Relapse Prevention Therapy
- Supportive and Insight-oriented Therapy
3. Group Therapy & Psychoeducation
- Conduct structured group therapy sessions for de-addiction patients focusing on:
- Motivation for recovery
- Coping skills and emotional regulation
- Relapse prevention strategies
- Facilitate support groups for elderly residents to promote social interaction and emotional well-being.
- Deliver psychoeducation sessions on:
- Addiction and recovery
- Mental health awareness
- Healthy aging and emotional resilience
4. Treatment Planning & Case Management
- Develop and update individualized treatment plans in coordination with:
- Psychiatrists
- Medical officers
- Nursing staff
- Social workers
- Monitor patient progress and modify interventions as required.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case review meetings.
5. Family Counseling & Support
- Conduct family counseling sessions to:
- Educate families about addiction and mental health
- Improve communication and family dynamics
- Reduce stigma and unrealistic expectations
- Guide families of elderly residents on:
- Emotional needs of aging individuals
- Behavioural changes due to cognitive decline or illness
6. Relapse Prevention & Aftercare Planning
- Identify high-risk situations and relapse triggers.
- Develop relapse prevention plans for de-addiction patients.
- Assist in discharge planning and aftercare programs, including follow-up counseling and referrals.
- Encourage long-term recovery support and lifestyle changes.
7. Crisis Intervention & Behaviour Management
- Handle emotional crises, panic attacks, aggressive behaviour, or emotional breakdowns.
- Support elderly residents with confusion, agitation, or behavioural disturbances.
- Work closely with medical and nursing teams during emergencies.
8. Documentation & Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate and confidential:
- Assessment reports
- Therapy notes
- Progress records
- Discharge summaries
- Ensure documentation complies with ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements.
9. Staff Training & Guidance
- Provide basic mental health training to caregivers, nurses, and support staff.
- Guide staff in:
- Handling difficult behaviours
- Communication skills
- Emotional sensitivity towards addicts and elderly residents
- Support staff well-being and burnout prevention when required.
10. Ethical Practice & Professional Standards
- Follow ethical guidelines, confidentiality norms, and informed consent procedures.
- Maintain professional boundaries with patients and families.
- Stay updated with latest practices in addiction psychology and geriatric mental health.
11. Community Awareness & Outreach (If Required)
- Participate in awareness programs, workshops, and camps related to:
- Substance abuse prevention
- Mental health awareness
- Healthy aging
- Assist the centre in building community trust and credibility.
