PAY AND BENEFITS


Annual Pay Range*: $30,253.64 - $38,057.38

Hourly Pay Range: $22.376954 - $28.148952

Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

  • Annual Pay Range based on working a .65 FTE (26 hours per week) schedule

  • 7.8 hours of vacation leave accrued per month

  • Monthly accruals (prorated for less than 1.0 FTE)

Employees must work a minimum of 30 hours per week to receive full benefits. Employees working 20 - 29 hours per week are eligible for medical benefits for themselves and family members. JOB DETAILS AND QUALIFICATIONS


Clackamas County’s Department of Finance is hiring a part-time Courier to deliver mail, materials, and supplies between departments. This position will work 26 hours per week and fits individuals who embrace an active role, follow a structured schedule, and want to support essential county services.

Courier responsibilities include transporting confidential items, such as legal documents, public health materials, and payroll records. Additional duties include processing mail, operating sorting equipment, assisting with warehouse and County Surplus operations, and supporting staff by finding lost items and maintaining supplies.

We seek candidates with strong organizational skills, precise attention to detail, and a customer service mindset. Essential qualifications include trustworthiness, discretion with confidential materials, and a proven ability to drive safely in all traffic and weather conditions.

Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

  • The ability to perform the essential functions of the job, which include strenuous physical labor, exposure to adverse weather conditions, and hazardous locations
  • Skill to operate assigned motor vehicles in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ability to read and interpret street maps
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

  • Experience working as a Courier driver
  • At least one year of experience driving a car or van-type vehicle
  • At least one year of experience driving a van-type vehicle with sensitive, confidential or fragile items
  • Experience delivering mail for an organization with several separate building locations
  • Experience working with confidential information
  • Experience working on mail processing equipment
  • Experience sorting mail for a large organization
  • At least two years of experience working in a position that required good organizational skills
  • At least two years of experience working with detailed information and keeping track of it on a daily basis
  • At least two years of customer service experience
  • At least three years of experience working with the alphabet and numbers on a daily basis
  • Experience doing data entry in a computerized system

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Must pass a criminal history check, which may include a national or state fingerprint records check

TYPICAL TASKS


Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Gathers, sorts, processes, transports, and delivers materials, mail, goods, and supplies to County departments and other agencies by hand or with machines. Follows an established time schedule. Operates mail or sorting machines. Transports sensitive items, including police and mental health case records, public health specimens, legal documents, and payroll or other checks. May perform routine troubleshooting and basic repair of automated sorting and processing machines.
  • Operates a van or similar motor vehicle between County buildings and public facilities in various traffic and weather conditions. Cleans and fuels vehicles as needed. Arranges for regular maintenance with County Motor Pool.
  • Respond to inquiries from County staff about Courier functions and schedule. Locate lost or misdirected items quickly. Maintain miscellaneous supplies in the Courier office and vehicles.
  • Delivers general warehouse support as needed, moving and transporting materials and equipment. Assists County Surplus operations by shipping, receiving, loading, and unloading items. Transports materials between locations, ensuring safe and efficient handling.

WORKING CONDITIONS


Duties driving a motor vehicle may involve exposure to adverse weather conditions and traffic hazards.

Duties require frequent grasping, stepping up and down, twisting, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry 25 pounds, push 75 pounds, and pull 100 pounds.


WORK SCHEDULE


This position is included in the county’s alternate workweek program, working 26 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Thursday (Fridays off). Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended. This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.

This position is designated as essential and may be required to report to or remain at work during inclement weather, major emergencies, or disasters when other employees are excused. Individuals in this role help ensure vital county services continue and may be asked to remain on duty or report to work as directed by their supervisor. In emergencies, employees may also be temporarily assigned related duties to support critical operations.

The Department of Finance centers its mission on the values of accountability, customer service and integrity. Our team serves the public and internal customers by providing timely and accurate fiscal information, evaluating financial alternatives and coordinating among departments to meet the county's public service goals. We also manage the acquisition of county goods and services, and we maintain sound, healthy and accessible county buildings and other facilities, protecting the county's investment in our public spaces.

The Finance Division provides accounts payable and accounts receivable, budget support, grants management, payroll services, and procurement and contract services to county departments and agencies.

The Facilities Management Division provides maintenance and management services for facilities that house county departments. County operations currently occupy 570,034 square feet across more than 80 buildings, ranging from 600 to 59,000 square feet. Services provided include:

  • general maintenance
  • janitorial and landscape services
  • maintenance and repair of:
    • HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning)
    • plumbing
    • electrical
    • lighting
    • mechanical systems
  • fire/safety/code compliance
  • project management for construction and remodeling
  • utilities management
  • leasing of facilities

Staff perform fire/life safety, indoor air quality, water quality, indoor lighting standards, building and electrical code, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) inspections. Tests and analyses are conducted on a routine and special-requirements basis to ensure the safety and comfort of the general public and employees and to ensure compliance with codes and legal standards.
