Job Summary
The Court Advocate/Sexual Assault Advocate plays a crucial role in supporting survivors of sexual assault and their families through the legal process. This position involves providing emotional support, crisis intervention, and advocacy services to individuals navigating the complexities of the legal system. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in social work, child welfare, or related fields, with a focus on crisis management and conflict resolution.

Duties:

  • Provide civil legal advocacy, criminal justice advocacy and court accompaniment
  • Provide help filing out and filing temporary (ex parte) protection orders and full protection orders
  • Provide information on Crime Victim's Compensation and help with filling out and filing any necessary paperwork
  • Facilitate a Weekly Support Group
  • Provide crisis intervention (personal and telephone) and hotline
  • Provide transportation if necessary, for hearing and court appointments
  • Assist survivors in applying for U-VISA's
  • Survivor advocacy which includes but is not limited to:

o assisting survivors in obtaining support

o providing resources

o helping survivors with services including but not limited to:

  • employment
  • housing
  • shelter services
  • health care
  • Educate survivors on the court system and expectations of the court
  • Ensure precautions are taken to provide security and confidentiality of survivors, both

residents and non-residents

  • Educate survivors on the nature and dynamics of domestic violence
  • Maintain files on case management, statistics, and follow-up on clients
  • Provide emergency coverage and back-up for shelter staff
  • Work with all county agencies (law enforcement, hospital, courts, and prosecutor) that work directly with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Provide on call services on a rotating basis
  • Participate in the Johnson County Agency collaborations as related to survivor services
  • Facilitate Johnson County Sexual Response Team (SART) meetings
  • Keep records pertaining to grant requirements as requested by the project manager
  • Perform other work-related duties as required by the Executive Director
  • Public Speaking and Community Outreach
  • Report directly to the Executive Director

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
