General Definition of Work:
Performs administrative support work utilizing an electronic recording device to make and maintain the verbatim
permanent record of all court proceedings, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the
moderate supervision of the assigned personnel.


Essential Functions:
• Records verbatim transcript of court proceedings using electronic recording device.

  • Marks all exhibits provided to the court and logs on identified log sheet. Maintains, labels, and marks all tabs used to
record proceedings. Checks all speakers daily to provide a clear and concise record. Checks electronic recording
equipment prior to Court. Keeps log of all data relative to jury trials.
  • Prepares verbatim transcript of proceedings upon request, in legible English, which requires identification of the
persons speaking. Uses proper spelling and punctuation in converting spoken words into written words.
  • Proofreads, prints and assembles transcripts in a timely and professional manner. Marks and catalogs tapes to be
stored. Follows-up with medical and other professional individuals who may have presented testimony with unfamiliar
terminology that requires verification.
  • Provides secretarial support to the Judge by maintaining records, calendars, media correspondence, and answering
phones and emails. Processes mail, memos, and submits reports.


Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: Moderate (1+ year) experience in a legal setting.
Special Requirements:

✓ Obtain Court Recorder Certification within 6 months of hire.
