Job Title: Credit Controller

Department: Finance / Accounts Receivable

Reports To: Finance Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time

Role Summary
The Credit Controller will be responsible for managing the
end-to-end accounts receivable process for our freight and logistics clients.
You will assess the creditworthiness of new customers, monitor credit limits,
resolve complex billing queries (including rate discrepancies, demurrage, and
customs charges), and actively chase overdue payments. The ideal candidate will
have a strong understanding of the freight forwarding industry and the unique
financial challenges it presents.

Key Responsibilities
1. Credit Management & Onboarding

  • Evaluate new credit requests from shippers, consignees, and overseas agents using

credit reference agencies and trade references.

  • Set and regularly review credit limits and payment terms in line with company

policy.

  • Monitor credit exposure and take proactive steps to mitigate risk, including

placing accounts on hold to prevent the release of cargo (e.g., holding
Bills of Lading/Delivery Orders) for severely delinquent accounts.

2. Collections & Accounts Receivable

  • Actively chase overdue invoices by telephone, email, and letter within agreed

timescales.

  • Manage a high-volume ledger of multi-currency accounts (e.g., USD, EUR, AED).
  • Ensure timely cash collection to meet monthly and quarterly DSO (Days Sales

Outstanding) and cash collection targets.

  • Allocate customer payments accurately to the correct invoices and accounts in the

ERP system.

3. Query & Dispute Resolution

  • Act as the primary point of contact for resolving customer invoice disputes.
  • Liaise closely with the Operations, Sales, and Customs teams to investigate and

resolve queries related to freight rates, weight discrepancies, demurrage,
detention, and customs duties.

  • Ensure disputed items are resolved promptly to prevent delays in payment.

4. Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare weekly and monthly aged debt reports for management, highlighting

high-risk accounts.

  • Reconcile customer statements and accounts regularly.
  • Identify and escalate uncollectible debts for legal action or debt collection

agencies when necessary.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in credit control or accounts

receivable.

  • Industry Knowledge: Previous experience in the freight forwarding,

logistics, or shipping industry is highly preferred. Familiarity with
industry terms (BOL, AWBs, Demurrage, Incoterms) is a distinct advantage.

  • Technical Skills: * Proficiency in accounting software and freight management

ERPs

  • Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables) for managing large datasets and

statement reconciliations.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or an

equivalent professional qualification (e.g., CICM).

  • Attention to Detail: High accuracy in cash allocation and multi-currency

reconciliations.
