The Special Investigations Division is comprised of and responsible for the following sections/units/programs:

• Special Investigations Unit
  This section comprises the following three units/programs:
  • Technical Support Unit
    The Technical Support Unit is responsible for providing technical investigative support to the Louisiana State Police as well as well as other state and local law enforcement agencies in Louisiana.
  • Special Victims Unit
    Rescue and seek justice for the victims of crimes involving the exploitation of children and the trafficking of humans for sex or labor through investigative partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, and through public education.
  • Insurance Fraud / Auto Theft Unit (IFAT)
    The IFAT Unit is responsible for investigating referrals of suspected fraudulent insurance acts; assisting federal and local law enforcement in the investigation of fraudulent insurance acts; cooperating with local prosecutors and the attorney general's office in the prosecution of fraudulent insurance acts; and promoting awareness of insurance fraud throughout the state. Additionally, the Unit is responsible for investigating individuals and illicit organizations involved in the theft of motor vehicles.
  • Louisiana Clearinghouse for Missing and Exploited Children
    Created in 1985 by the Louisiana Legislature, LACMEC is the central repository of information about missing and exploited children. Parents, guardians, law enforcement and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) provide the clearinghouse with details and photos to send across the state and nation. This information is sent to local law enforcement agencies to assist in the recovery of these missing children. LACMEC also gives parents and guardians important information on the role they play in helping their children return home and available local and national resources.
  • Cyber Crimes Unit
    The Cyber Crime Unit's mission is to provide accurate and timely threat intelligence, incident response, and forensic analysis to prevent and mitigate cyber threats to Louisiana. The unit supports criminal investigations surrounding cyberattacks and network intrusions. These efforts include traditional digital extraction and forensics, as well as network forensic and analysis, with the goal of determining the root cause of a single event or in support of a larger operation. Information sharing of actionable cyber intelligence is conducted at no cost to federal, state, local, and private sector entities.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work; OR

Twelve hours in law enforcement or a criminal justice field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.

Job Duties and Other Information

• Investigates violations of Louisiana law, gathering evidence and documenting all activities associated with each investigation.

• Conducts interviews and interrogations of witnesses, victims, and suspects in accordance with legal protocols and investigative best practices.

• Prepares detailed investigative reports that summarize findings, support legal proceedings, and ensure accurate case documentation.
• Analyzes and documents emerging crime trends to support proactive enforcement strategies and departmental planning.
