SUMMARY: Serves as the law enforcement representative for the Toledo Humane Society in the prevention of cruelty and neglect of animals. Investigate complaints and/or reports of animal cruelty. Collect evidence necessary to prepare reports and case files for prosecution, and provide testimony as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability level required. This individual must also possess the ability to manage the emotional aspect of witnessing animals in traumatic situations, humane euthanasia, and support staff in high-emotion circumstances. Must be able to pass a criminal background check upon hire.
Certification as a humane agent is required within six months of hire. The Humane Society Agent Training Program, is to ensure compliance with OAC 109:2-15-02 using curriculum approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos effectively. Public speaking and group presentation skills preferred.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of PetPoint database software or become proficient within the first six months from hire date.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is required to sit and/or drive. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to zoonotic disease, aggressive/feral animals, toxic or caustic chemicals, possible hostile public, and operation of vehicle under all types of weather/road conditions. Must be available to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays if required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
