Custodian II

Job Description

SUMMARY

The Custodian II position is part of Support Services team and is responsible for daily cleaning of the Warrensburg branch and administrative offices and weekly cleaning of the Holden and Knob Noster branches. They are also responsible for monitoring, ordering and dispensing cleaning supplies for the district.

HOURS OF WORK

This is a 40-hour per week, non-exempt position. Most of the hours will be worked around the open hours of the three branches. Some hours per day will be overlapped with the Support Services Manager.

REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent preferred. A minimum of one-year cleaning experience and clerical experience required. A valid Missouri driver’s license is required and a personal vehicle is preferred.

Essential Duties

In addition to other duties as assigned, the Custodian II has these specific responsibilities:

Cleaning

  • Daily and weekly sweeping and mopping, cleaning/disinfecting of bathrooms, vacuuming, wiping down walls and mirrors in high traffic areas
  • Checking and replacing paper goods and soap
  • Spot cleaning of carpets as needed
  • Dusting of desks, furniture, and book shelves

Supplies

  • Organize and monitor the usage of all cleaning supplies
  • Monitor supply email account and send out requested supplies weekly via the Trails courier system
  • Work with the Support Services Manager to order and process new cleaning supplies or equipment.

Other:

  • Work at varying paces to respond to the needs of the library
  • Notify supervisor and branch manager of building maintenance issues
  • May help with seasonal grounds work, clear sidewalks and apply snowmelt as required
  • May help with backup currier duties

Skills or Knowledge Required

  • Fluent in English.
  • Able to use email and office software like Office or Googe Workspace
  • Well organized and able to effectively prioritize.
  • Work without direct supervision during, before, or after operating hours.

Physical Requirements

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential physical requirements of the position.

  • Maneuver and operate cleaning equipment that could weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Set up and take down tables, weighing up to 30 pounds, and maneuver chairs for programs or meetings.
  • Spend up to 4 hours without sitting.
  • Ability to get down on the floor to clean floors, bottom shelves, equipment, etc.
  • Communicate with supervisor in person and on the telephone in English.
  • Tolerate dust and mold encountered by working with books and other library materials or in library buildings.
  • Vision, which permits the employee to review labels, written reports and related materials in both electronic and printed form.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Salary Track: C
  • Supervisor: Support Services Manager
