Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Data Analyst for the Office of Information Technology (OIT) – Health Sciences IT. This position reports to the Assistant Director – Data Analytics, Research, and Reporting for the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. The Data Analyst is responsible for providing analytical support to the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine customer base.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Adapts quickly to comprehend each health client’s unique business and operational constraints
  • and needs and resolve those challenges, employing data analysis expertise to create solutions
  • through the application of appropriate analytical techniques and methods.
  • Develops lasting technical solutions that leverage prevailing analytical tools, including Power
  • BI and Excel with a focus on effective integration and sustainability.
  • Produces data visualizations that provide insight into data set structure and meaning.
  • Works with subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify important information in raw data and
  • develop solutions that extract this information from a variety of data formats, including SQL
  • tables and structured metadata.
  • Develops and implements statistical, machine learning, and heuristic techniques to create
  • descriptive and predictive analytics.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Health-related discipline, Math, Engineering, Business Administration, Computer Science or related field, and at least three (3) years of experience in information services with a preference given to candidates from a Higher Education or Healthcare environment; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated SQL knowledge and experience is required, with preference given to candidates with experience in Oracle.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing a variety of data visualization tools and methods to create graphs, charts, timelines, maps, dashboards, infographics, etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, including MS Excel.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills working in a service-oriented environment.
  • Effective written and oral communications.
  • Established organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under general supervision using a wide degree of creativity and discretion.
  • Ability to work independently or in teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with data visualization software such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Experience leveraging statistics and statistical packages such as R or SAS.
  • Experience with programming languages, such as Python and VBA.
