MetaPhase is seeking a Data Analyst to and modernizes a public facing .gov website. You will design, build, and maintain embedded data visualizations that help the public and agency stakeholders understand key programs and performance. You will source data from multiple systems, shape and validate it, and deliver accessible and performant visuals that align with Section 508, WCAG 2.2 AA, and the U.S. Web Design System.
What You Will Be Doing:
  • Partner with product, UX, engineering, and program owners to translate questions into clear metrics, charts, and data stories
  • Build embedded visualizations for the website, client side or server rendered, using libraries such as D3.js, Vega Lite, Plotly, or Chart.js, and align styling with USWDS
  • Create accessible charts and tables that meet WCAG 2.2 AA, include text alternatives and captions, ensure color contrast, and support keyboard navigation and screen readers
  • Ingest and model data from multiple sources, CSV and Excel, REST and GraphQL APIs, relational databases, data lakes, and vendor platforms
  • Develop repeatable data prep and validation, SQL and Python, including joins, transformations, and quality checks
  • Implement data reliability checks, row level validation, schema tests, anomaly detection, and monitoring with alerting
  • Collaborate with developers to expose data through secure APIs or views, design caching and refresh strategies, and optimize payload size and rendering performance
  • Document datasets, metrics, and visualizations, create data dictionaries, lineage notes, and change logs
  • Support analytics for government sites, DAP and GA4 where permitted, and convert insights into public friendly summaries
  • Contribute to CI CD and DevSecOps practices for analytics code and visualization assets
  • Prepare inputs for compliance artifacts as needed, accessibility testing results, privacy review notes, and change control records

What We Need From You (Required):

  • 4 or more years in data analysis, data visualization, or analytics engineering, including at least 2 years building web embedded charts
  • Strong SQL skills, window functions, CTEs, and performance tuning
  • Proficiency with Python for data work, Pandas and Jupyter, or R with tidyverse
  • Hands on experience with one or more visualization libraries used on the web, D3.js, Vega or Vega Lite, Plotly, Chart.js
  • Experience integrating with diverse data sources, relational databases such as Postgres or SQL Server, flat files, APIs, and cloud object storage
  • Demonstrated accessibility practice for data visuals, Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 or 2.2 AA, automated and manual testing
  • Ability to explain methods and tradeoffs to technical and non technical audiences, and to write clear documentation
  • Version control with Git, pull requests, and code review
  • Strong ability to multi-task, prioritize and work independently; the ability to drive and own tasks are preferred.

Work Setup & Travel:

  • Hybrid - Based in Washington, DC. Occasional travel may be required.
Clearance & Education:
  • Must be able to obtain Public Trust
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, IT Management, or related field
