Role: Data Architect/Engineer - Mid-Level

Position Summary: The Data Architect/Engineer provides technical expertise in the design, integration, and optimization of enterprise data architectures supporting the Defense Health Agency’s (DHA) hybrid and multi-cloud environments. This role bridges data modeling, migration, and governance activities to ensure data consistency, accessibility, and compliance across enterprise systems. The engineer will collaborate with teams to define data flows, implement secure data pipelines, and align data architecture practices with DoD, DHA, and NIST standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop documentation for the design of enterprise data models and schemas supporting interoperability across DHA’s hybrid and cloud environments.
  • Design methods to optimize processes and data integration pipelines across structured and unstructured data sources, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • Document system data flows and interface dependencies in support of DoDAF-compliant artifacts (e.g., AV-2, SV-1, OV-6c).
  • Support data migration activities from on-prem to cloud environments, ensuring adherence to security, lineage, and performance standards.
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and lineage diagrams to increase visibility and traceability across the data ecosystem.
  • Integrate data protection and encryption frameworks into cloud-native architectures, ensuring PHI/PII and CUI compliance.
  • Contribute to the governance frameworks and support the alignment of data-related documentation of DHA’s enterprise architecture.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related STEM field.
  • 6–10 years of experience in data architecture, engineering, or data integration within DoD or federal programs.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, relational and non-relational database systems (Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB).
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data architectures (AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud, or Google Cloud) and data lake / warehouse frameworks.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and data transformation scripting for analytics and data movement.
  • Experience supporting architecture documentation aligned with DoDAF or TOGAF frameworks.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $110,000.00 per year
