Job Purpose

Responsible for the hands-on operation, maintenance, and monitoring of data center infrastructure to ensure the continuous availability and performance of IT systems. This role supports the physical and technical aspects of servers, networking equipment, power, and cooling systems, contributing to the overall reliability and efficiency of the data center. The technician works under the direction of data center management to troubleshoot issues, perform routine tasks, and maintain a secure and organized environment.

Job Description

1. Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on servers, networking hardware, and other data center equipment.

2. Monitoring and reporting: Report and monitor anomalies or performance issues to supervisors. [HG1]

3. Incident Response: Assist in troubleshooting and resolving hardware, connectivity, or environmental issues to minimize downtime.

4. Installation and Decommissioning: Install, configure, and decommission hardware, cabling, and infrastructure components as needed.

5. Environmental Control: Ensure optimal operation of power (e.g., UPS, PDU) and cooling systems (e.g., HVAC, CRAC units) to maintain a stable environment.

6. Security Compliance: Follow physical and digital security protocols to protect data center assets and ensure compliance with standards (e.g., ISO 27001).

7. Documentation: Document and labeling accurate records of equipment inventory, maintenance activities, and incident reports.

8. Team Support: Collaborate with other technicians and IT teams to execute projects and maintain operational standards.

Policies, Processes & Procedures

9. Follow and implement all relevant department policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

Day-to-day Operations

10. Follow the day-to-day operations related to own jobs in the department and preparing requested reports to ensure continuity of work. Ensure being innovative, initiative and recommend new approaches related to own jobs.

Compliance

11. Comply with all relevant CBE regulations, banking laws, AML regulations and internal AAIB policies and code of conduct in order to maintain AAIB’s sound legal position and mitigate any potential risks.

Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is a plus.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience in a data center, IT support, or technical maintenance role.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware installation, cabling, or troubleshooting is preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of server hardware (e.g., Dell, HP, Cisco) and networking equipment.
  • Familiarity with power systems (e.g., UPS, PDU) and cooling technologies (e.g., HVAC).
  • Basic understanding of operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux) and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to read and follow technical manuals, schematics, or wiring diagrams.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good communication skills for collaborating with team members and documenting work.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Certifications (Preferred): CompTIA Server+, Data Center Technician Certification (DCT), , ITIL Foundation.
