Here’s a quick overview of what you will be doing:

The Role

As one of our first Data Engineers, you'll sit at the intersection of data infrastructure and business intelligence. This role is analytics-first — roughly 70% of your time will be turning data into insights that directly shape how Burq operates and grows. The remaining 30% is keeping the pipelines and data infrastructure that power those insights reliable, scalable, and clean. You'll work closely with product, operations, and leadership to answer hard questions: Where are delivery failures clustering? Which providers perform best in which markets? Where are we leaving margin on the table? You won't just surface numbers — you'll frame the problem, build the view, and drive the recommendation.

This is a mid-level role with a clear path to full ownership. You'll be growing into infrastructure decisions and AI/ML-adjacent work as our data platform matures — if that trajectory excites you, this is the right seat.

Key Responsibilities:

Analytics & insights (primary)

• Build and own dashboards and reports in Looker or similar BI tools that track KPIs across delivery performance, provider reliability, and customer experience
• Analyze operational data to surface trends, anomalies, and opportunities — and translate them into concrete recommendations for product and ops leadership
• Partner with operations, product, and the founders to frame data questions and design the right models to answer them Become the go-to person for delivery metrics — you'll know the numbers better than anyone

Data engineering (supporting)

• Design and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest data from internal systems, third-party APIs, and provider feeds
• Contribute to our data warehouse architecture (Snowflake) using a medallion/layered modeling approach
• Implement data quality monitoring, validation, and governance so the analytics layer stays trustworthy
• Help architect solutions that scale cleanly as delivery volume and data complexity grow

• Required 3–5 years of experience in data analytics, analytics engineering, or a hybrid analytics/data engineering role
• Strong SQL — you write complex queries fluently and think in sets Proficiency in Python for data transformation and analysis Hands-on experience with a cloud data warehouse — Snowflake preferred, BigQuery or Redshift also fine
• Experience building BI dashboards in Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent
• Comfortable with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect) Builder mentality
• Nice to have Experience at a startup or high-growth logistics / marketplace company
• Familiarity with dbt or similar transformation frameworks
• Exposure to data streaming (Kafka, Kinesis) or real-time pipelines Interest in ML/AI applications — we're actively building on AWS Bedrock and see this role as a future feeder into that work
