Main Duties and Responsibilities/Performance Standards

Interprets routine administrative policies and procedures as necessary; provides information to the public with regards to these policies.

Provides administrative support for the laboratory department including various secretarial duties that include: typing, transcribing and maintaining department filing system and calendars for department personnel & follow up appointments.

Responsible for HR-administrative tasks in the department.

Types routine correspondence and reports using personal computer.
5
Operates office equipment such as photocopier, and fax machine.
6
Answers the telephone, screens callers, takes and relays messages, responds to telephone inquiries including substantive questions not requiring a technical knowledge and greets visitors.

Communication orally and electronically with departments.
8
Interprets and transcribes dictation by pathologists and transcribes medical dictation to provide a permanent record of patient care using the formats.

Adheres to policies and procedures, quality assurance/control program, safety, infection control and environment standards in the performance of duty.

Demonstrates an understanding of the medical-legal implications and responsibilities related to the transcription of patient records to protect the patient and the institution, and maintains confidentiality of matters relating to patients.

Maintains an effective written and oral communication system that assures prompt and accurate patient results reporting system. As well as delivering results (reports) and effective exchange of information with laboratory sections and other hospital departments

Operates designated word processing, dictation, and transcription equipment as directed to complete assignments

Maintains accuracy of assigned laboratory reports.

Expands job-related knowledge and skills to improve performance and adjust to change.
15
Cleans equipment and working areas as per infection control policies.
16
Maintains required records, reports. As well as established procedures for the retention of laboratory records and materials as required.

Enters data and results as needed into the computer and/or ensures that the communication between equipment and computer generating results is working.
Qualifications, Competences and Skills
Education
High School graduate or equivalent, an Associate’s degree is preferred, Both basic laboratory and customer service experience is desired but not required
Language
High proficiency in English language.
Computer Proficiency
Basic computer skills and laboratory information system.
