Description

The Division of Pulmonary Medicine is focused on understanding and treating Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) through multi-omic data integration and high-impact clinical trials. Our lab collaborates across pediatric and adult ICUs nationwide, analyzing rich datasets, including genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, and clinical data, to uncover mechanisms of critical illness.

We are seeking a highly motivated Data Manager and Lab Technician with a background in Computational and Systems Biology. Ideal candidates will have experience in statistical programming (R and Python), and a strong interest in multi-omic analysis, RNA-seq, GWAS, and data integration. You’ll work closely with Drs. Monteiro, Sapru, Pellegrini, and the UCLA Collaboratory, contributing to publications, presentations, and biomarker-driven research in critical care.

In addition to data analysis, responsibilities include managing and maintaining patient databases, training students and lab members in bioinformatics tools, and supporting lab operations. This is a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with direct mentorship from leaders in systems biology and critical care research.

Hourly range: $26.52-$31.63

Bargaining Unit: UPTE-RX

Qualifications

Required:

  • Knowledge of basic genetics, immunology, and biochemical principles.
  • Familiarity with techniques including Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and ELISA.
  • Ability to create and maintain records accurately.
  • Ability to organize raw data into a comprehensible form.
  • Ability to maintain laboratory readiness for future experiments.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including knowledge of R, Python, MS Excel, MS Word and MS Powerpoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to convey experimental results.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse group of faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows and students.
  • B.S. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field and/or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrate previous experience teaching and training students in laboratory research. Train new members of the lab in analysis techniques.
  • Aptitude and willingness to take responsibility for maintaining records and taking initiative on experimental plans in the laboratory.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize projects through multiple phases. Ability to meet deadlines and follow through on multiple tasks simultaneously with careful attention to detail, accuracy, completeness and thoroughness.

Preferred:

  • Ability to use basic laboratory equipment, including centrifuge, pH meter, PCR, etc.
  • Willingness to work with human biospecimens with adequate safety precautions
