Debt Resolution Liaison Attorney

The Debt Resolution Liaison Attorney position is a full-time, remote position that will primarily assist with debt resolution for firm clients and serve as backup to lead attorneys on the Network Liaison Team. This attorney position does not require court appearances.

Essential Responsibilities and Objectives

The Debt Resolution Attorney will:

  • Provide legal assistance to the debt resolution network, including emailing and calling creditors and creditor law firms, triaging and managing escalation requests from the debt resolution network, and providing settlement and account management oversight to paralegals, legal administrators, and negotiators;
  • Prepare and review/approve settlement agreements and other legal documents;
  • Oversee negotiator and paralegal functions and provide coaching to paralegal and negotiating team members regarding legal and ethical compliance, firm core values, and policies and procedures;
  • Support liaison network attorneys with case management and workload, including providing coverage during liaison attorney absences to ensure urgent matters are effectively managed and progressed;
  • Facilitate communications between opposing counsel, creditors, negotiators, firm attorneys, and paralegals;
  • Address debt resolution teams’ concerns to ensure client and program success;
  • Manage and facilitate legal training for new hires; assist the training team with designing and creating legal training modules for staff members;
  • Collaborate regularly with management, administrative personnel, negotiating teams, and servicing teams;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in consumer debt defense and/or collections is preferred but not required;
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to communicate and present complex legal concepts to non-legal team members;
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills;
  • Employee management and relation-building skills;
  • Strong time management skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, and function well in a fast-paced, high-volume environment;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, and/or other CRMs (preferably case management software systems), and generally tech-savvy.

Education and Experience

REQUIRED:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school;
  • Active license to practice law in at least one state;
  • Strong knowledge of legal industry rules and regulations pertaining to collections, debt defense, and debt settlement, including but not limited to FDCPA and FCRA;
  • Solid knowledge of rules regulating attorney ethics and standards of practice.

PREFERRED:

  • Debt resolution experience;
  • Licensing in multiple states preferred but not required.

The Debt Resolution Attorney works remotely from a home office or other dedicated workspace. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as a computer and various software programs, including an online phone system. The individual must have access to high-speed internet.

This position will require the ability to:

  • Sit at and operate a computer for prolonged periods of time;
  • Speak, hear, and see sufficient to operate a computer and communicate with others;
  • Utilize hand-eye-arm and finger dexterity to use a computer keyboard and other office equipment;
  • Read, interpret, and understand firm materials and communications.
