We’re looking for passionate, informed, democratic YouTube on-air personalities to join our channel, Issue Addict. Our content focuses on U.S. politics, pointing out the real-world dangers of our current political leadership and advocating for a course correction toward a freer, more democratic world.
As a Political YouTube Host, you’ll be responsible for finding stories, shaping the angle, and delivering engaging commentary on camera. You should love following breaking political news and turning it into compelling videos quickly.
What You’ll Do
- Identify breaking political stories from the day that highlight actions by the federal government or political leaders that threaten civil liberties, democratic norms, or the rights and freedoms of everyday people, especially those you believe will do well based on what’s working for our channel and other channels like MeidasTouch, Occupy Democrats, etc.
- Hosts are expected to react to political developments using news clips, official statements, or reputable articles, to assist in the political commentary.
- Develop a script or outline (whichever matches your style) that presents the news, your opinions, and analysis in an engaging way. Our videos typically range from 8 to 12 minutes.
- Record yourself on camera delivering the story in a clear, energetic, and confident way.
- Edit your own videos in a basic but clean way (cuts, audio balancing, simple graphics if you use them). Our priority is getting timely, high-quality commentary out quickly in a very competitive niche.
Role Type, Hours & Workload
This is a remote, contract role. You’ll be paid per video, and you can choose how many videos you take on.
- A typical “full-time” workload would be around 2 videos per day, 5 days per week.
- Each video currently takes most hosts 2–4 hours from idea to final upload, depending on their experience and editing style.
- Because we cover fast-moving U.S. politics, you must be able to work during U.S. daytime/evening hours (approximately 10am–9pm EST) so you can react to the day’s news in real time.
This is only an example schedule, hosts are free to include weekends or adjust their workdays based on availability and when major stories break.
Compensation
Compensation is paid on a per-video basis. Each approved and completed video earns a guaranteed base pay, with additional performance-based bonuses available on top. Bonuses can be earned for longer video length and for hitting specific view-count milestones, and multiple bonuses may stack on a single video if it meets more than one threshold. While base pay is guaranteed for every video, all bonuses are earned based on actual performance and are not guaranteed. This structure allows creators to increase their earnings as their content performs better and as the channel grows.
Hosts working a “Full Time” schedule usually make between $4500-$6000/month.
Note: You’ll be hired as an independent contractor (no traditional employee benefits) and paid at the end of each month.
What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)
- Comfortable and confident on camera (you must show your face).
- Strong knowledge of U.S. politics and current events, with a clearly left-leaning perspective.
- Basic proficiency with video editing software of your choice (Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci, CapCut, etc.) with an ability to add simple on-screen text, screenshots, or B-roll to support your commentary.
- Basic understanding of what makes a YouTube video engaging (hooks, pacing, retention, etc.).
- Ability to work quickly on same-day stories and meet short turnaround times.
- Reliable internet connection and access to at least:
- A decent camera
- A clear microphone
- Basic lighting
Nice to Have
- Prior experience hosting or appearing on YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, or podcasts.
- Experience with news, commentary, or political content.
- Familiarity with YouTube analytics and what tends to perform well (click-through rate, average view duration, etc.).
Training & Support
You’ll receive training on:
- The systems and workflow we use for selecting stories, scripting, and publishing.
- Our tone, branding, and best practices for Issue Addict.
We’ll also provide feedback on your first several videos so you can align with the channel’s style and improve quickly.
