Dental Assistant Job Description

Position Overview
The Dental Assistant supports the doctor in delivering high-quality clinical care while elevating each patient’s experience through attentiveness, anticipation, and genuine connection. This role blends technical excellence with emotional intelligence—ensuring patients feel comfortable, respected, and truly cared for.

Key Responsibilities- Clinical Excellence
- Always be on-time and prepared
- Assist the doctor during a variety of procedures with efficiency and precision
- Prepare and break down operatories to the highest standards of cleanliness and organization
- Take radiographs and intraoral scans as needed
- Ensure all instruments are sterilized and properly maintained
- Maintain accurate, detailed clinical notes
- Conduct vital signs assessments and monitor patient comfort throughout treatments
- Educate patients on dental procedures, post-treatment care, and oral health best practices in a friendly manner
- Support front desk tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, greeting patients, and managing medical records efficiently
- Support hygiene department by helping flip rooms, seating patients, taking notes and periodontal charting
Patient Experience & Hospitality
- Greet patients warmly and set a positive tone from the moment they arrive
- Guide patients through procedures with empathy and clear communication
- Recognize signs of anxiety and respond with reassurance and care
- Offer thoughtful touches (comfort items, conversation, remembering preferences) that make visits feel personal
- Follow up on patient concerns and celebrate patient milestones
Team Collaboration
- Support teammates proactively—step in without being asked
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with doctors, hygienists, and front desk staff. We all help each other.
- Help create a positive, energized workplace culture
- Contribute ideas to continuously improve both clinical flow and patient experience
Operational Awareness
- Stay ahead of schedule—anticipate doctor and patient needs to keep the day running smoothly
- Manage supplies and notify team when inventory is low
- Adapt quickly to changes while maintaining a calm and composed demeanor
- Support all departments, anticipate problems before they occur
Qualifications
- Dental assisting experience is required (certification as required by state)
- Strong clinical knowledge and attention to detail
- Excellent, clear communication and interpersonal skills
- A natural ability to connect with people and build trust quickly
- Positive attitude with a willingness to go above and beyond
- Proficiency with dental software including Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry
- Experience with dental imaging techniques including X-ray and 3D scanner technology
- Familiarity with infection control protocols and aseptic techniques to ensure a safe clinical environment
- Ability to perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency and patient comfort
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality at all times
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with the dental team and educate patients about their oral health needs
- Experience with Invisalign or other clear aligner therapies is a plus
- Bilingual is a plus

Pay: $25.50 - $30.00 per hour
