Duties

• Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring all instruments and materials are prepared and sterilized according to infection control protocols.
• Operate dental equipment such as X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging devices while adhering to safety standards like Aseptic technique and HIPAA regulations to protect patient information.
• Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring proper positioning and exposure for accurate diagnosis.
• Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix or Epic, documenting medical history, vital signs, and treatment notes precisely.
• Support front desk operations by acting as a dental receptionist—scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, and assisting with medical documentation and coding.
• Maintain a sterile environment by following infection control procedures, including sterilization of instruments and proper disposal of biohazard materials.
• Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, treatment plans, and post-procedure care to promote overall dental health.

Skills

• Proficiency with dental software such as Dentrix, or Epic for managing patient records and appointments.
• Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
• Experience with chairside assisting techniques in general dentistry and specialized fields like prosthodontics or pediatrics.
• Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners with precision.
• Familiarity with infection control standards, aseptic techniques, and sterilization procedures to ensure patient safety.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages, especially pediatric patients.
