Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Dental Assistant/Receptionist to join our healthcare team. This role combines front desk administrative support with clinical assistance, ensuring smooth operations within our dental practice. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems, and a solid understanding of dental and medical terminology. Bilingual abilities and prior dental office experience are highly valued to enhance patient care and office efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and manage patient check-in and check-out processes using EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or similar platforms
- Schedule appointments, confirm patient visits, and manage cancellations or rescheduling efficiently
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance verification using systems like Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks
- Collect payments, process medical billing, and handle collections in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical and dental records, ensuring compliance with health information management standards
- Assist dental providers during procedures by preparing instruments and materials as needed
- Review documentation for accuracy and completeness, including CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding, and care plans
- Manage multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette; respond to patient inquiries promptly
- Perform administrative duties such as filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), and managing office supplies
- Support front desk operations by managing patient intake forms, medical history updates, and appointment reminders
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy and confidentiality
Qualifications
- Prior experience in a dental clinic or medical office environment is preferred; familiarity with dental terminology and clinic workflows is highly desirable
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Meditech, Epic, Athenahealth, or similar platforms
- Knowledge of medical coding (CPT, ICD-9/10), billing procedures, insurance verification, and health information management standards
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), typing (including 10 key), and familiarity with office management software
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply
- Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification in medical assisting or administrative support is a plus
