Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functioning correctly using infection control protocols and aseptic techniques.
- Assist dentists during various procedures such as restorations, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry with chairside assistance.
- Take and develop dental X-rays and medical imaging, including 3D scans, while maintaining proper radiation safety standards.
- Manage patient records efficiently using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy in medical documentation and coding.
- Collect vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse to monitor patient health before procedures.
- Educate patients on dental terminology, post-treatment care, and oral hygiene practices to promote overall wellness.
- Support administrative tasks including scheduling appointments as a dental receptionist and managing medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in dental assisting within a general dentistry or pediatric dentistry setting.
- Knowledge of infection control standards, aseptic technique, and anatomy relevant to dental procedures.
- Ability to operate X-ray machines and other medical imaging equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding practices.
- Excellent communication skills to interact confidently with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics.
- Certification in dental assisting or equivalent training; additional certifications in radiography or pediatric dentistry are advantageous.
