Job Description
Tennessee State University Department of Dental Hygiene invites applications for Dental Clinic Assistant. This position will serve as a member of the administrative team and will work closely with Coordinator of Clinics and students. Interact with academic team as they develop and implement the curriculum for students.
Job responsibilities include the following:
Sterilization Area:
- Control daily processing of student instruments (Autoclave/ Magnaclave)
- Quality Assurance (Spore testing, OSHA monitoring, etc.)
- Monitor/supervise student clinicians during clinic rotation in this area
Clinic Area:
- Control daily management/maintenance of equipment:
- Initiate weekly checklist assessment of operatory/chair (i.e. Assess traps for changing, fill distilled water bottles as needed check all chairs for shutdown protocol)
- Report abuse of equipment or facilities to the coordinator of clinics and the program director
- Coordinate housekeeping with University personnel.
- Aid in maintaining the security of the clinical facility (Ensure all doors are locked in key areas at end of day)
- Monitor/supervise student clinicians during their clinical rotation in this area
X-ray Area:
- Maintain quarterly Dosimeter Badges For Freshman/Sophomore Students
- Dispense and Track all Digital X-ray Plates
- Initiate (am start-up) Image XL, Digital Processors (maintained by NashvilleDental/Henry Schein)
- Initiate and Maintain Darkroom Processor
- Maintain Quality Assurance documentation for this area
- Monitor/supervise student clinicians during their clinical rotation in this area
Office Management System (Exan, A2):
- Order supplies and equipment using SciQuest/Maintain inventory using A2
- Keep supplies stocked in appropriate areas (e.g., film in x-ray cubicles, hand soap at sinks, change disinfectants as needed, etc.)
- Review instrument and equipment lists with leads for submission prior to the beginning of each semester.
REQUIRED:Certified Dental Assistant
Preferred Experience: 3 to 5 year’s
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of courses involving dental assisting and equipment maintenance. Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) preferred.
Knowledge of modern dental office practices, procedures, and equipment. Knowledge of business English and arithmetic. Ability to keep records and make reports. Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions. Ability to establish and follow a routine maintenance schedule of dental equipment. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
