Duties
- Perform dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup, ensuring optimal oral health.
- Take and evaluate vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to monitor patient health status.
- Assist with dental procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and patient comfort.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, documenting findings, and updating medical records accurately.
- Provide patient education on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to empower patients in maintaining their health.
- Take and interpret medical imaging such as X-rays while adhering to infection control protocols and safety standards.
- Maintain strict infection control practices using aseptic techniques to ensure a sterile environment in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Review documentation for accuracy, assist with medical coding for billing purposes, and ensure all records are up-to-date within electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Support the dental team with chairside assisting during various procedures while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Follow all dental terminology standards and maintain knowledge of anatomy to provide precise care tailored to each patient’s needs.
Qualifications
- Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice in a clinical setting.
- Proven experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry environments, demonstrating proficiency in dental assisting and patient care.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for documentation review and record management.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques essential for safe practice.
- Experience working with pediatric patients is highly desirable; knowledge of pediatric dentistry is a plus.
- Ability to perform dental procedures efficiently using four-handed dentistry techniques while maintaining excellent patient rapport.
