Job Description


This position is eligible for an additional sign-on bonus.

The Dentist provides on-site dental services and dental health assessments for patients at the facility in accordance with the contract, applicable detention standards, community standards of care, written health care policies and procedures, and accreditation requirements. The role supports access to timely oral health care, participates in quality improvement and risk management activities, contributes to emergency response readiness, and maintains accurate clinical documentation and continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site dental services and dental health assessments for patients as part of the facility’s health services program.
  • Examine, assess, diagnose, and treat dental conditions within the scope of licensure and in accordance with community standards of care and applicable contract requirements.
  • Deliver prescribed treatment and follow-up care for patients with dental conditions using the appropriate level of provider.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and secure clinical documentation within the electronic health record and related health record systems.
  • Participate in daily systems for receiving and triaging requests for health care when dental follow-up or dental evaluation is required.
  • Coordinate continuity of care for transfers, including current diagnoses, medications, scheduled appointments, consultations, and any medically indicated dental follow-up.
  • Support referrals for off-site specialty or emergency care when clinically indicated and consistent with facility processes.
  • Comply with written policies and procedures for prompt summoning of emergency medical personnel and evacuation of patients when deemed necessary by qualified medical personnel.
  • Achieve and maintain Basic Life Support certification and respond to health-related emergencies in accordance with facility emergency response requirements.
  • Comply with infection prevention and management requirements, standard precautions, environmental health and safety requirements, and applicable public health guidance.
  • Protect the confidentiality of medical records and patient information and comply with all applicable privacy and records requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement, risk management, training, drills, and other contract-required activities.
  • Work effectively in a multicultural and multilingual environment and provide culturally competent, trauma-informed care.
  • Complete required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications


Required Licensure / Certification:

  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license in Maryland or the ability to obtain one.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Graduate from a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) program located in a State, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory and accredited by the American Dental Association and the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) in the year of the applicant’s graduation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to provide dental services and dental health assessments within the scope of licensure.
  • Ability to assess and manage dental conditions and provide follow-up care appropriate to the patient’s clinical needs.
  • Ability to maintain accurate clinical documentation and use an electronic health record.
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillator use, emergency first aid, and methods of obtaining emergency medical assistance.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and management requirements and standard precautions.
  • Ability to protect confidential health information and comply with privacy requirements, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) where applicable.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, multicultural, and multilingual environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Required to walk unaided at a normal pace for up to 5 minutes and maintain balance.
  • Required to jog/fast walk up to ¼ mile.
  • Requires physical exertion such as lifting objects greater than 30 pounds.
  • Required to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling.
  • Must have the ability to assist sick, injured, or aging patients or staff exiting the building (may require lifting, dragging, wheeling, or carrying someone who weighs significantly more than self).
  • Must be able to see, hear and smell with aids if necessary.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or carry 30 pounds.
  • Must perform the duties of my job in a stressful and often austere environment without physical limitations.
  • Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Average manual dexterity for computer operation.
  • Phone or computer use for extended periods of time.

Other Special Qualifications:

  • Must maintain current/physical residency in the continental U.S.
  • Pass a medical examination conducted by a licensed physician within 30 days prior to initial assignment.
  • U.S. citizen that has resided in the U.S. for the last five years (unless abroad on official U.S. government duty).
  • Successfully engage in and complete a thorough Background Investigation.
  • Poses or have ability to obtain required security clearances.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

Compensation Disclaimer:
Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
