The Design & Estimation Engineer – Fire Rated Doors & Joinery will be responsible for detailed design, technical specification, cost estimation and coordination for fire-rated door systems and specialised joinery used across aviation rescue & firefighting (ARFF) projects and related facilities. The role requires strong technical knowledge of fire-rated door standards, materials and fabrication methods, proficiency in preparing shop drawings and take-offs, and the ability to produce accurate, commercially sound estimates. The post-holder will work closely with project teams, procurement, manufacturing and site teams to ensure designs are compliant, manufacturable and delivered within budget and schedule.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed design drawings, shop drawings and fabrication details for fire-rated doors, frames, seals, hardware and specialist joinery in accordance with applicable fire standards and project specifications.

Develop accurate quantity take-offs and cost estimates for materials, labour and subcontract works for tendering and project budgeting purposes.

Review project specifications, architectural drawings and site conditions to identify design risks, compliance gaps and constructability issues; propose practical solutions.

Specify appropriate materials, fire-rated cores, hardware, glazing, seals and finishes ensuring compliance with fire-performance requirements, durability and maintenance considerations.

Coordinate design inputs with engineering, procurement, manufacturing and site teams to ensure seamless transition from design to production and installation.

Produce and maintain bill of materials (BOM), cut lists and manufacturing instructions; ensure accurate data entry into ERP and estimation systems.

Prepare scope documents, take part in tender evaluations, clarify technical queries from clients and subcontractors, and support commercial negotiations where required.

Perform technical calculations, fire-rating assessments and compliance checks; liaise with third-party testing or certification bodies as needed.

Maintain design standards, templates and drawing libraries; implement lessons learned and continuous improvements to estimation methodologies.
