About Sustainable Fashion & Textile Design

This programme is for students who want to master practical and sustainable design solutions in fashion and textiles for the Indian and global markets. The programme encourages students to adopt responsible creativity whilst solving design problems and gaining in-depth knowledge of design concepts such as aesthetics, colour, shape and style.

Students learn to maintain a subtle balance between the self and ecology, and learn to collaborate effectively. The programme trains them to develop a critical understanding of the social, cultural, economic and sustainable factors which influence the environment and design innovation.

Lead, Sustainable Fashion and Textile Design

Required Education Qualification and Years of Experience

Postgraduate degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or allied disciplines with a minimum of 60 per cent marks at either level, and demonstrated professional experience as a practising fashion or textile designer with a strong focus on sustainability.

  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, or academic engagement
  • Independent research or practice-led inquiry in sustainable fashion and textile systems
  • International professional exposure will be an added advantage

Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs)

  • The School of Design at Anant National University seeks a practicing designer who is actively engaged in sustainable fashion and textile practices, material exploration, and research to join the Sustainable Fashion and Textile Design programme as a Designer-in-Residence.
  • The preferred candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability-led design practices and be able to translate professional practice into academic learning.
    Candidates should have the ability to engage undergraduate students through studio-based teaching, workshops, critiques, and discussions.
  • The Designer-in-Residence position is intended for distinguished practitioners who are keen on unpacking the multiple layers of sustainability across fashion and textile systems, including materiality, production, consumption, and socio-environmental impact.
  • The role involves working closely with Foundation and Sustainable Fashion and Textile Design (SFTD) students, supporting them in developing critical thinking, responsible design approaches, and material consciousness within fashion and textile contexts.
  • Designers-in-Residence are expected to advise and mentor students, contribute to curriculum enrichment, participate in academic reviews, exhibitions, seminars, symposia, and other School and University activities and programmes.
