Overview
We are seeking a skilled Desktop Support Engineer to provide comprehensive technical support within our organization. This role involves troubleshooting hardware and software issues, managing IT infrastructure, and ensuring seamless operation of desktop environments across various platforms including Windows, macOS, and Linux. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a customer-focused approach, and a solid understanding of network administration and IT support processes. Duties
- Provide technical support to end-users for hardware, software, and network-related issues via help desk tools such as ServiceNow or Jira.
- Troubleshoot software problems, including application errors in Microsoft Office, Active Directory, and other enterprise applications.
- Manage computer hardware, including desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals, ensuring proper configuration and maintenance.
- Assist with software deployment and updates using tools like SCCM and BMC Remedy.
- Support operating systems such as Windows, macOS, and Linux, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Configure and maintain network components such as LAN, WAN, VPN, firewalls, DNS, and TCP/IP settings to ensure secure connectivity.
- Monitor and manage IT infrastructure components including servers (Windows Server, Linux) and network devices to optimize performance.
- Perform routine system updates, patches, backups, and security checks to maintain system integrity.
- Collaborate with the IT team on projects related to network administration and system upgrades.
- Document support procedures, configurations, and issue resolutions for future reference.
Skills
- Proven experience in providing IT support with a focus on desktop support and troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of operating systems including Windows, macOS, and Linux environments.
- Proficiency with network protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, and concepts like firewall configuration and VPN setup.
- Familiarity with enterprise management tools like SCCM, ServiceNow, Jira, and BMC Remedy for ticketing and asset management.
- Experience managing user accounts via Active Directory and performing user provisioning/de-provisioning tasks.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware issues related to computers, mobile devices, printers, etc., ensuring minimal downtime.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service; capable of explaining technical issues clearly to non-technical users.
- Strong analysis skills for diagnosing complex problems quickly and effectively.
